"regular" Pilot Pen With Same Nib As An Elite?

Maurizio

Recommended Posts

I got a Pilot E3 pocket pen with a fine nib about a year ago. Over that time I have come to enjoy the pen, and the nib's initial scratchiness has ameliorated and now I really enjoy writing with it - it being a gold nib I guess this was to be expected as it conformed to my writing characteristics.

I would like to buy a full size ordinary pen with the same type of nice nib as on the E3. I'm sure the Japan pen pros here will know if such a pen is available or not.

Please let me know if there is such a pen and tell me the model name etc.

Thanks for your input and help.

Wow I like it. Thank you Jekostas. Is there any Pilot model currently in production and being sold or are all the pens available vintage?

Oh yes. Now I see. The Pilot Sterling Silver series has them. You’re right. Quite a jump in price.

The nib on the Pilot Deluxe Urushi looks somewhat similar though perhaps not identical. It might not fit your definition of full-size though.

The nib on the Deluxe Urushi looks absolutely nothing like the nib on the Elite. The former is a small, clip-on nib similar to a Lamy, the latter has a large, inlaid nib.

Absolutely nothing? I disagree. It depends on what attributes you're focusing on. I'm focusing on the fact the Deluxe and Elite both have narrow-shouldered nibs (as opposed to the "conventional" shape found on the 74/91 pens for example).

Plenty of full size Elite and Custom pens with that type of nib are available on the vintage market in Japan, you'd have to use a buying service.

Otherwise, the cheapest one that was still in current production that has the same large inset nib(but in special alloy/steel instead of gold) is the desk pen (DPN-200).

Thank you for your further insight zchen. A shame there are none in current production except the sterling silver I saw on Amazon.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
