Man what an unfortunate name for the English speaking consumer base. I'll be skipping this one (not because of the name). Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunate name, that is a remarkable point. please tell me the details of the nuance. i have heard that more than half of the

2500 KUMPOOs will be sold outside Japan. Does not Platinum know the unfortunate feeling of the word?

La Couronne du Compte have them up for pre-order, but at €330, which I suspect is a lot more than we were expecting - they have a pre-order discount on at present, but then their prices always seem to be hit and miss.

Kumpoos with SM nib seem to be available only outside Japan. Why???

I think they will be released on July 1st according to their website.

And yeah, too bad SM nib is only available in the foreign market :bawl:

I'm on the fence about this one. It is very pretty, and there's a SM nib (which I've always wanted), but I keep thinking that if I wait until the fall, there will be an orange or brown color (since this series reflects the seasons).

I wish Platinum hadn't placed such a premium in terms of price on these pens, but it is what it is I guess.

It's......um, to put it as delicately as possible, the name "Kumpoo" in English calls to mind two specific bodily excretions. It's unfortunate, yes, but only if your mind goes there. I doubt it will be a problem for the foreign market. It'll probably just be a bit of a giggle and people will move on, appreciating the beauty of the pen.

Is The Glass Half Empty Or Half Full..............Yeah....only if it goes there.......................

I like the look of this pen, but no way am I paying 330 euros for it. Or anything over 200, for that matter. I'd much rather go for the standard blue- or red-transparent ones.

It is indeed very expensive. The general consensus is always that Sailor is the most expensive of the Japanese Big 3, but imo Platinum is. On a whole Japanese companies are very competitive and similarly or identically priced, but that aside imo Platinum is the most expensive. They charge hefty premiums on rhodium trimmed pens, their LEs & SEs are much more expensive than Sailor's or Pilot's, the price for a pack of carts is higher than the other 2's, converters are more expensive, with again a premium on rhodium trim converters.... and that's just off the top of my head.

I'm not the greatest fan of demonstrators and wish also Platinum would produce more solid colours, their SEs for the Tokyo pen show and Wagner were amazing! I missed the Kawaguchi, but the Kawaguchi along with the new Kumpoo (& Nice Lilas & Nice Lavande!) are definitely right up my street, but I won't be buying as they want too much imo

Several fountain pen shops will sell Kumpoos for $260.

Maybe if somebody puts these on auction on eBay I can give it a shot. But at that retail price..

Whoever buys this pen, please take some pictures and share here so I can let my eyes feast on such a gorgeous finish!!!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
