Centering Of Recent Le Petit Series Nib Slit

I found most slits of Le Petit series' nibs are not well centered. Some times even broad nibs are not cut in center. For example, 5:52 of the appelboom video:

I almost returned mine until I saw those photos on the web. Here is mine:

When I look at regular Montblanc, the slit is cut exact at the center of nib.

What about centering of the feed/comb on the nib? This is a picture of what is probably my nicest and smoothest writing pen, a post 1990 146 in Fine, and hopefully you can see that it's rather "offset" . . .

Performance is the only standard by which I measure a fountain pen.

That resonates with me.

An excellent writer is an excellent fountain pen.

For that reason the Montblanc fountain pens on my writing desk are all treasures, as each of them reliably writes very well.

Thank you for your to-the-point comment.

I've always been a bit off-center meself. :P

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

My Petit Prince Legrand (resin) nib slit seems to be properly centered. It is a Broad, and had to be sent back to Hamburg for it. I believe retailers only stock F and M nibs for these Petit Prince models.

I find it to be a very nice grind. Stellar performance.

Some of my favorite Montblanc nibs have off-centered and/or somewhat sloppy grinds (a 70s 146 comes to mind, very weird grind on it) , but they write like a dream. If the nib doesn't perform properly, by all means contact MB support about it. If it's just an aesthetic thing, I wouldn't worry so much. In the end it's your call, and you have the right to complain if you feel there's an issue. Cheers!

I'm maintaining a comprehensive list of Iron-Gall inks. Contributions most welcome! bit.ly/irongall

This. I’m an oblique kind of broad myself. (belated pun alert)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
