Hello From The Triangle (North Carolina)!

Hi everyone,

As usual, I'm doing everything backwards: I'm posting my introduction AFTER I've browsed the threads and posted to several of them. So here I am, making things right.

About myself, I'm a little of this and a little of that, including: art supplies junkie, stationery fiend, fic writer, RPG gamer, avid reader, happily married, and mom. Oh, and owned by a cat.

I came to the forum from rediscovering my old fountain pen supplies buried in my stash and trying to find replacements for my Sheaffer No Nonsense calligraphy pens (from the 1980s), which I'd somehow misplaced. With anything I'm interested in, I started researching the hell out of it first and in this age of internet-everything, the research easily led me here.

I'm so glad I came!

Because I rarely do anything I love by halves, I was primed to get ripped off, make regrettable (but functional) purchases, and generally have a not-as-great experience diving headfirst into the modern fountain pen world. Thanks to my browsing here, I got up to speed fast enough to attend my first pen show without being overwhelmed or carried away.

Thank you, everyone, for being my teachers when I needed you the most. You've really made a big difference already and I've only been doing this for a month!

I'm looking forward to many more engrossing hours visiting the forums and reading what you have all posted.

See y'all on the boards!

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Not even being from the same continent I'm not sure on distances but if you're looking for a club I know there's a vibrant one in the Triangle area. Not sure where they meat though.

Hello from Raleigh, neighbor.

Oh, I know this of myself

I assume as much for other people

Still have happy memories of my sojourn to the Triangle two years back - well Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Carey - America at its best, sigh.

Welcome from Missouri! Really glad you are with us!

It's okay to be a bit backwards! Most of us here are! :yikes:

Hi there, Bobje! I must have missed you too. I know I would remember such a distinguised beard as yours. ^_^ Thank you for responding to my post.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
