European Source For Tomoe River

Hi All,

I'd like to buy some loose sheets of tomoe river somewhere in Europe. Anyone know of a source.

Also, apparently people who have bought the paper from Japan and also elsewhere like places in the USA for example say there seems o be a difference between them and that the Japanese paper is better. What do you think/know about this?

Thanks guys! :)

Alternatively, FPN member gatzBCN makes lovely custom order notebooks with TR paper, and has an Etsy shop - worth to take a look!

I use only 52 gr TR paper sourced from above, but other members will surely give more info on the second part of your question.

Bureau Direct, Amazon, The Journal Shop. Revealed by Google. Give it a try!

Thanks very much all.

I did try google ;) but i was a little worried about this bad TR paper that came over to Europe and the USA. I guess, what i want is to be sure that its a source of the good stuff not the "faulty" (??) paper :)

Also, what do you think is the reason that there is an apparent difference between the loose leaf stuff and the stuff in the enigma, seven seas etc notebooks?

Enigma is 68gsm Seven Seas is 52 gsm. So there is a difference. The only loose leaf I've seen is 52gsm, which does not necessarily mean that 68gsm is not available in that form. I have some 52gsm loose leaf and it behaves like Tomoe. Is it different than my Crossfield? I have no idea, as I've had no reason to check. I cut it in half and use it for letter writing. None of the recepients have complained. So far.

My understanding is that there was a one time issue several years ago. Buy from a reputable dealer and don't worry about it. Or worry if it make you happy  :)

Add lightness and simplicate.

I made a cursory examination of Amazon purchased loose leaf. Loose leaf has less ghosting than Seven Seas. I'll happily continue to use both.

gatzBCN also sells a Tomoe pad.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
