Anyone have a good pen to suggest for shimmering inks?

I have the Blue Flame and love it...other than how it clogs things up....

Ideas?!

Thanks!

For shimmering inks I have successfully used Noodler's Ahabs and Pelikan pens.

In general you want to look for a wet writer, preferably with a broader nib. A pen that writes as wet as possible from the beginning will help getting you as far as possible before your pen clogs up. My Ahabs and the Pelikan M200 Clear 1.1 mm italic I use regulary, if not exclusively with (Diamine) shimmer inks never show(ed) a problem. The Pelikan for example is filled with Diamine Tropical Glow since February 2018 and still writes nicely, wet and without skipping.

My own pleasure is to use a demonstrator pen for shimmering inks so in case of clogging you can literally see what's going on inside. And you can see all the shimmer greatness.

TWSBI pens, I saw at a pen meeting some days ago, also seem to work nicely, but since I do not own one, I cannot back that with personal experience.

Thanks that's great info. My TWSBI Mini stub gave me trouble. But I am inspired by your first-hand account of using the Ahab and M200 with stubs. I'm on it! Thanks for helping me pic, my next pen! ;-D

I use the M200 with the italic nibs with the glitter. It is so cool.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

There was another thread on this topic recently. Poke around for some additional responses there.

Im pleased with Jinhao 991 and 992 pens for shimmer inks. They write well, the F nibs come out for easy cleaning, and at about $1/ea, are great for this purpose.

I have a fire hose of a Parker 45 and my Noodlers Konrad. The Konrad has a Goulet B and the nib on the 45 is on the wider side too.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
