Is This Normal Behaviour For A B Nib?

I would have Montblanc Service sort this out under warranty.

Thank you, but I trust much more John Sorowka and Mike Masuyama (even if I have to pay).

Just dont refer to Sorowka as a nibmeister! A term I also cant abide... if you do, he very will likely not reply, or at least he'll be sure to correct you!

His work, however, befits his reputation - there is no better nib adjuster in the UK.

I know, I know, I should have used another definition. Anyway, the pen is on its way to Oxford. :)

Well done! He’s very busy and doesn’t advertise. I’m fact, without serious stalking skills, you won’t find his contact details anywhere, so you did well to find him and for him to agree to the job! Well done!

Thank you ! I’ve sent to him my first 149 six years ago, and since then many others pens... :) He is not only a great nib specialist, but also a gentleman.

What is the name of his shop?

He doesn’t own a shop, as far as I know. I received his email contact from another FPN member.

Ive been sending him pens for a couple of years now and met him earlier this year at a pen show. A gentleman full of stories with a great sense of humour; also fantastic with nibs.

Agree - he’s at all / most of the UK pen shows (that’s how I was finally able to get his email address!). Definitely a gentleman.

I don’t know his exact credentials, but I believe he worked for / tuned nibs for OMAS. He had some formal relationship with them anyway. Consequently he has one of the best OMAS collections in the UK.

He tunes Conway Stewart’s nibs now (now “Bespoke British Pens”) but I believe is very much freelance.

He brings all his nib adjusting kit to the shows and that’s a good way to get work done, and you get to watch.

As I said before, his nib skill reputation is well earned..

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
