Is This Fake?

Im looking at this pen. I havent seen it in person yet, but next week the seller will meet me at MB boutique if necessary to help confirm authenticity. Its easier to do it on my own if I know what to look at/for. I am comfortable with the fountain pens, but not so much on the ballpoints.

The center band is very strange, and is the most obvious indicator the pen might be fake. Also, the way the clip is made also is a giveaway. And finally, I know Montblanc makes a similiar LeGrande pen in blue, but this looks black.

Due to the very poor picture quality, I can not be positive that it is fake, but what I have seen tells me so.

I can not say definitively that it is a fake, but I suspect it may be one as it does not appear to match an identifiable model. Also, the aesthetic of the pen seems wrong, specifically the band appears clunky, something that might have been made I the 80s, but the material the pen body is made of is of a later period.

Thank you. The gentleman selling it says he inherited the pen, so especially with what I’m hearing, I will need to have it checked at my local boutique.

Hello, I did a little searching and I was wrong about the age, but right about it being a fake. It is new fake as of 2018 and it retails for $22.98. Search under fake montblanc ballpoint and you will find it. The thieves have incredibly referred to them as replicas! And, they claim to have copywrited them. Oh how I wish they could be made to eat replica food. The kind made out of plastic.

Run away! It's a ballpoint!

In seriousness, I should admit my ignorance of the ballpoint range, but the pen pictured doesn't look like any I've seen. The workmanship looks a bit clunky?

... could be interesting, if a genuine offer.

Good luck

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
