New Ink Heritage Spider Grey

Hello,

Just saw on the website of MB a new ink has been released even if it is unavailable for the moment, the Heritage Spider Grey: http://www.montblanc.com/en-be/collection/refills/writing-accessories/118209-ink-bottle-50-ml-heritage-spider-grey.html

It is the ink aligned with the new Heritage pen that will be released this year (I don't know when) and now snake is replaced by spider.

Thank you so much for opening this thread.

It answers the question posted in the “Enjoying Montblanc Pens...” thread.

I'm glad to know this!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention :) I was actually looking for a nice grey ink and almost went for the Pilot Namiki Iroshizuku Kiri Same. Now I'll wait for this instead

I'm a MontBlanc scrub so I don't know anything about it, but... The replacement of the Spider with the Snake means the Rouge et Noire will be discontinued?

Sciumbasci, I doubt that they will discontinue they snake clipped variant of the rouge et noir for the new spider edition. My guess would be that the spider pen will be around for a year or so, as it is a special edition.

The same - I'm looking for a interesting grey and MB will release it in a good moment :) And also I was thinking about Pilot's grey.

I think you'll still need Kiri-Same too, but maybe that's just me? I love that ink :P One of my most favorite greys.

It's got a spider on the box. :( I'll pass.

Oh, that and the description on the link doesn't give any indication about the actual color. Is it a light grey or dark? Warm or cool tone? Green undertone? Brown? Blue? Pink? (You think I jest. Every see what happens with a drop of Iroshizuku Fuyu-Syogen on absorbent paper? A pink halo!)

What makes this so special that I should pay an exorbitant amount of money for it, when for less money I can get MORE of Diamine Grey and De Atramentis Tchaikowsky/Silver Grey? Besides, of course, the "snooty" factor? :glare: Especially when they can't even bother to provide a swab or written exemplar. This is the problem I have with MB. I'm supposed to take their word for things. I'm supposed to be a good little consumer and buy into their hype? I think not.

I liked Leo Tolstoy (even though I'm not overly enamored of the whole "LIMITED EDITION" concept to begin with -- but I didn't buy a bottle until I saw what it looked like on the page. I like Lavender Purple (but of course have a lot of similar looking inks as well). I almost bought a bottle of the Beatles ink at Christmastime -- then put it back on the shelf and bought about of Platinum Classic Lavender Black instead (about half the price AND iron gall).

If you say so I must just as well get me a bottle and try it. I really like grey inks and so far the ones I have disappoint. Is it really that good? Not to faint that its nicely legible?

Lighter than Permanent Grey. Lighter than GvFC Stone Grey too, but I don't find it too faint or light. I like the hint of warmth in it compared to most of the grey inks I've tried. I've used with many different nibs, up to OBB, and I find it a great shader. Not water resistant though, if that is a concern.

I love greys too so the Spider ink will most likely join the collection when it is available.

Tempted.

Liked the Einstein, but don't like the Oyster Grey.

Grey inks are a recent new interest for me. However, I'm finding more joy in other brands, just now.

Price? It is what it is. Take it or leave it.

In my opinion, it is overpriced, even compared to other MB 50ml bottles available, but that seems to be the trend.

I usually buy a bottle of the new inks to try (there have been some wonderful inks over the past few years) - but the 50ml bottles would be too expensive and impractical for my everyday habit, so I usually default to other brands (eg Iroshizuku. Diamine etc) - apart from my standard blues and blacks, which constitute most of my ink.

I still regret not getting a bottle of Hitchcock, when it was available.

I'm interested to see what it looks like. Hope it's dark.

Thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...

I went to my MB boutique a few weeks ago and they told me they had ordered the ink and it will be in around august here in Montreal. I was also told there is a pen that will be announced soon and that our MB boutique will not be ordering it since they do not have that market here.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
