Orange Fountain Pen Recommendations

Hey yall,

Ill start this off by saying orange is my favourite colour. I started down the FP rabbit hole about two years ago and Ive been experimenting with different fountain pens ever since; however, Ive yet to purchase an orange pen, and the time has come.

Ive been listening to Brad and Myke talking about their Tangerine Sailor 1911s on the PenAddict podcast and that tweaked my interest in getting a pen that matches my favourite colour.

I then saw Aurora has released an orange 88 flex pen last year, and an orange Optima flex pen coming in June this year. These are of course very expensive options, but they look great to me!

So then I looked to see if I could find an orange Lamy Safari - and wow, Im surprised its not a colour in their regular line-up! Yes, its not a common colour, but they have yellow, so I feel marginalized ;) Lamy released a special edition copper orange Al-Star in 2015 (which I would buy in a heartbeat if they were still making them) but thats not available anywhere.

Pilot makes translucent orange pens (Custom 74, 823, CH92, etc) but that really doesnt do it for me. I rather enjoy the solid orange colour of the aforementioned pens.

Jinhao offers orange shark pens, but Im not pulling that out at the office :)

If youre an orange fan, Id love to hear what orange fountain pens youre writing with to get some ideas!

The Pelikan M800 burnt orange special edition.

I too have a thing for orange.

I like the Omas Ogiva Cocktail in orange. Its translucent but not quite a demonstrator being ribbed.

Good looking orange pens are hard to come by. At least it seems that way to me. The Jinhao 159 is too clumsy looking, the ebonite oranges can be a bit hit and miss and the Sailor plastic looks even cheaper in orange than it usually does. I've been tempted by the orange Sailors but when you see close up shots it doesn't look so great.

My first "modern" fountain pen purchase was an Edison Collier in Persimmon Swirl & satisfied my desire for my 1st orange pen; the next "nice" pen to follow was a Delta Dolcevita, Oro Oversized, which was to be my "final" & ultimate orange pen. It remains my favorite orange pen, but has been succeeded by several others, a Faber Castell, Ondoro (cool 8 sided orange body, with silver cap,) a Ranga ebonite, the aforementioned Lamy Burnt Orange, a modern Parker Big Red (former rollerball, converted with section from a Cross pen,) a Sheaffer No Nonsense & last year was excited to discover that Kaweco had made their Sport pen for Spanish market in orange, called the Naranja (still to be found on Ebay, or was last week.)

I also consider orange my favorite color & even used for customised leather interior of my last new car. I was perusing the colors available, after the salesman had suggested "graphite, was the usual choice," & I then spied a swatch book which included an orange. I thought a moment, ordered it up & have been happy sitting upon my orange leather seats, ever since!

The Sailor pen would surely be a fine example of a business acceptable pen, but perhaps that will be just your "First Orange Pen"............Aurora also made a handsome pen, their Optima Aurolide O'Sole Mio, currently shown & sale priced @ CLASSIC PENS.

They are surely "out there" & the fun for me has been the discovery; if nothing strikes your fancy, there is always a custom pen from a variety of wonderful makers. I have a Shawn Newton Shinobi, with black body & cap that has orange lucite section, with matching finials on cap & bottom section. (If all Orange seems to much for the office, this might be a thought....)

Enjoy, but beware, orange ink may follow........If so, there is also a CONID, pen made exclusively for FONTOPLUMO, which offers matching ink by KWZ.

Conklin Duragraph Orange Nights (they also have purple and red). It has a black cap. I got mine from eBay seller speerbob, who is a very good seller, and has that pen for $48, free shipping.

For vintage pens as mentioned the Sheaffer No Nonsense is common in orange (in fact, I may have an extra one or three). The Parker 45 is available in orange, though at a premium to other colors. There are various orange chased hard rubber pens available, Eversharp comes to mind. Big Reds are orange, sort of. Geometric (toothbrush) Duofolds were made in dark orange. Sheaffers Imperials in cadmium are orange-ish.

There are probably Kullock 51's in orange.

Now excuse me while I mix up a screwdriver...

One test is worth a thousand expert opinions.

Paltinum offers a Plaisir in Nova Orange, starting around $15 on ebay.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

I'm not as much a fan of orange as I am of Delta fp's. Their DolceVita has an orange barrel and black cap and comes in different sizes, and piston or converter/cartridge. The Oro is entirely orange. Plus, there's one that is a mix of black and orange swirl resin. Delta is no more, but these are available new and used on ebay and in the sales forum here at fpn.

Omas Soleterre is an orange that is somewhat translucent. There are a few NOS or unused on the net.

Another vote for the Collier Persimmon Swirl.

If that isn't the nicest orange pen I've ever seen I'd like to see what is. Just a glorious colour.

I would also say Conklin's All American Sunburst Orange is a handsome pen.

(I am ashamed to admit I had forgotten I also had the Parker 45 & Kullock replica for Parker 51.)

A Faber Castel Ondoro, a Parker Duofold Big Red which is actually orange, and an orange Visconti Voyager. Also an Indian handmade pen of an orange(ish) ebonite.

I found one of the aforementioned Lamys in Orange on eBay about a year ago, without looking too hard. However, I have to agree with others that Edison’s Persimmon Swirl is a beauty-see Stephen Brown’s YouTube review of it.

Orange is my favorite color also.

I'd like one of these...

I really like the FPR Himalayan and have one in green ebonite.

Pelikan M800 Burnt Orange is gorgeous, classy and still available in some places.

Pelikan is also rumored to release another M800 Orange this year.

GvFC Intuition Terracota is also a beautiful pen. There’s also the GvFC Guilloche Burned Orange.

Delta Dolcevita still can be found in some places and is gorgeous.

Finally, the impossible (to me) to obtain, MB Hemingway is gorgeous and classy too.

If we talk vintage, Parker Duofold Big Red is, actually, orange! And it is gorgeous.

The same applies to Sheaffer’s Flat top Coral pens. Then, there’s a Conklin Endura

In Orange which is fantastic (I hope to get one some day).

Wow! So many solid options. BTW, I really like orange as well!

Sailor 1911L Tangerine (ordered from Nibsmith.comes with free nib customization -- mine is a very nice CI)

Bexley Deluxe button filler (probably hard to find)

Bexley Prometheus 2nd generation - incredible bargain, found on Ebay, sold by Howard Levy himself (Bexley's owner and founder)

Bexley 56 is a huge, nice tribute to vintage Waterman.

FPR Darjeeling and Himalaya are also a good, inexpensive options..

Vintage Parker Duofold is an excellent classic.

Parker Duofold modern.

Sheaffer Nononsense is a classic also.

Delta Dolcevita Oversize is a huge, wonderful choice if you can find it.

Conklin Duragraph in chased orange, if you can find it, or the Amber is beautiful as well.

Conklin Crescent in chased orange also.

Lamy Safari will be hard to find, but good if you can.

Any or several or all of these will serve you well.

I'd speak up for the Sailor Pro Gear Slim, Nagasawa Original Tarumi Apricot.

Here's a link to one:

There's also some depth to the orange colour with some tiny gold flecks. The nib and converter match.

I got one with a hard fine nib, and have been using it in my journal regularly.

The closest I have is a Esterbrook J in copper.

There are some nice orange inks though. I have a few - Noodler's Apache Sunset, KWZI El Dorado and Diamine Ancient Copper. Apache Sunset is the most orange of the three, but leans slightly to the yellow side. El Dorado is mostly gold, but leans slightly orange and Ancient Copper is well, more copper. But all three are in the family.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
