I don't own a MontBlanc, I just wanted to share this.

To start the video, click anywhere on it.

Conte takes the pen out of his pocket at 1:00 into the video.

Another angle:

The pen shows up at 1:21.

Just out of curiosity, what model is this?

Meisterstuck I'm guessing a 145. Its not a 146, 147 or 149 and does not appear to be a 144 or 114.

I would say 146, platinum trim. Interesting he spurned the desk pens in favor of his own. He also posted the cap.

Looks like a 146 to me.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

Thanks, all. I was wondering about the model.

To BlueJ, there's some (a lot, depending on the website) vitriol about Conte ignoring the offered (very elegant) desk pens. In my humble opinion, for such an important gesture as to sign one's own mandate as a Prime Minister, a person is free to choose their own favourite pen.

I think it's a 145 and not a 146. At 1:23 you can get a clear view of the grip section and it is much longer than the 146 and it has the characteristic severe tapering of the 145's grip section.

That's what I based my guess on. It's clearly a Meisterstuck. He unscrews the cap. And the section appears to be more tapered and less cylindrical like that on a 146 (and 147). Too thin to be a 149. So that leaves the 145. Who knows it might even be one of those really good fakes that seem to have infested ebay recently.

If I become the prime minister of a country then a considerable amount of my time will be spent selecting and prepping the "right" pen and ink for every document I sign. I don't think I'll get any work done. Ever.

Well, at least he didn't try to snag one of those desk pens ;)

Now he will always have the pen he used on this important occasion :)

Probably the same pen used to write his exams at the New York University... :)

He claims to have spent at least a month every summer between 2008 and 2012 at New York University, perfecting and updating his studies. But a spokesperson for the university told the New York Times: A person by this name does not show up in any of our records as either a student or faculty member.

What? He didn't use a Vis...conte???

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

This controvery is open to 6-7 other foreign Universities actually.

A major point in the vitriolic comments that Conte's gesture received is that the fountain pen is not Italian-made.

Personally, I understand how this was possible. If you stroll around any big city, there are shop windows with Pelikan, Montblanc, Kaweco, Lamy fountain pens, even pens by Japanese manufacturers, but there's almost nothing on display by Visconti, Aurora, Montegrappa, Omas. Plus, Montblanc owns dedicated retail points in strategical points in the city centers, so it's easier to come home owning a Montblanc fountain pen after a shopping trip than, say, spot an Aurora pen on display.

This is just my assumption. He could very well own a Montegrappa or an Aurora and still decided to sign his mandate with a MB.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
