Pulled On A Threaded Cap

A friend was examining my Montblanc UNICEF Solitaire LeGrand the other day. This FP had the lacquered engraving. I think its made of metal although it doesnt say on the specifications. Anyway, to my horror, she pulled on the cap (instead of screwing it off) perhaps thinking it was the way to open it. I grabbed it back from her before she could completely pull the cap off. Right now, the cap still fits when I screw it in. But Im worried about whether the threads have been damaged. Does anyone know if Montblanc threads have been stripped because of mishandling like this? Thanks in advance.

Have you taken to inspect the threads closely through either a loupe or some other form of magnification to see if any stripping/damage may have occurred? That would be my first step. If all looks to be in order (upon closer inspection), and it screws/unscrews to your satisfaction, I wouldn't worry about it. But that's just my (very, very, very novice) opinion, mind you.

Hi thanks for the suggestion to examine the threads more closely. In the absence of a more professional tool, I just used my phone's camera to zoom in. I also took some pics. I am linking them here so I can get your 2nd or 3rd opinion:

Someone yanked my 146's cap right off. Ugh. (Re-living the horror.) That was a couple of years ago. The pen is fine. It was a good reminder to unscrew the cap before handing a pen over.

Rest assured. Threads look fine on both cap and pen.

I'd think it would take an enormous effort to pull off a fully screwed on cap, if it was possible at all?

Enjoy.

More than one. They are in the other copy of this thread.

Multiple instances of one question before waiting for a possible answer to the first are all the rage these days.

Ah. Gotcha. Thanks for clarification.

Threads merged.

Posting the same topic in multiple (even two counts) forums is discouraged. You get fragmented results unless a mod merges them like this. Pick one - people will find it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
