Dropped My Lamy On The Floor

BorisoftheStars

Recommended Posts

It landed on the carpet, but it does not write as well as my Nemosine despite my carpet being soft. It only takes a few seconds of no writing for it to need to scribble a bit. It's a Lamy Safari pen, and its nib is extra fine. Is that normal, or should I call in for a new nib? The nib looks fine to me, and I've cleaned it out, even with pen flush.

You're gonna need a loupe (magnifying glass used by jewelers) to see if the tines are still aligned. You're also gonna need to floss the tine in case there are carpet fibers stuck in the slit (sometimes flushing doesn't get rid of it).

Here are some tutorials on YouTube to help you out:

The Goulet Pen Company, the Pen Habit, and sbrebrown are channels on YouTube with tons of useful videos for fountain pen enthusiasts. You should check them out. Good luck 😉

By all means have a look at it through a loop and see if you can sort it out, but new Safari nibs are easy to obtain, and are cheap enough, especially on sites like Amazon

Agree with the above - use a loupe or magnification of some kind to check for misalignment and fibers in the nib and feed. I would also disassemble the nib and feed and clean them separate from the pen if you have not done so.

If not, Lamy nibs are cheap and easy enough to find.

I think I should get my hands on a loupe because it would be easier than using the giant magnifying glass I used to inspect my nib. I do watch Goulet pen videos, and I bought all my pen supplies from them (except for my first fountain pen).

I should go look using a loupe if I can get my hands on one. I do think brass sheets would be good to use as well.

I'm aiming for the loop because I already used a giant magnifying glass when I first had this issue (the first day I got it... which was when I dropped it). I'll get a new nib if I can't get my current nib to work.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
