Question On Reverse Frankenpen

I want to make a reverse frankenpen with a Pilot Plumix caligraphy medium nib to use it to try inks without having to flush a fountain pen every time. The nib has a couple of flaps (sorry for the misuse/abuse of the term) in the end that goes in the pen.

I have a couple of questions:

1) Will the nib fit a tachikawa 40? Will I have to modify the nib?

2) Alternatively, would it fit a brause nib holder without having to modify the nib? That is, using the teeth in the nib holder to grab it.

3) Could I use Kuretake Zig Cartoonist Sumi ink with it? This ink is not for fountain pens, but I wonder if you aren't meant to use it with fountain pens because it would clog the feed or it would also hurt the nib.

4) Alternatively, which (dark) black ink would you recommend that is waterproof and could be used with this reverse frankenpen?

Thanks!

I don't know, but thought I'd be polite enough to answer.

With Japanese nibs or inks I have no idea.

Only a light idea when it comes to European or American dip pen nibs. Only have 20-30.

I have a set of Winsor & Newton inks for my dip pens.

I have a fair selection of basic wooden Eberhart Faber holders, and a few others with no name, but a couple are nice enough to have their very own case; like an 'etched' metal Russian one. One or two just hang around looking pretty, as decoration in pen stands  ....(I just never get around to taking pictures.... :headsmack:)

If one is right handed offset nib holders are suggested. Have a couple......unused.

It’s not a frankenpen, it’s a dip pen.

And I have no idea if a Plumix nib can be attached to a standard holder and retain the feed, but my guess is not. There’s nothing on the nib to hold the feed in place. There are holders that can take a fountain pen nib and feed, but it’s not a standard thing, and I don’t think any of them work with Pilot nibs.

The easiest solution is just keep the Plumix nib in a Pilot body and dip it in ink. No cartridge loaded, just an empty pen. The feed dipped in ink will suck up a good bit of ink, maybe enough for an A5 page or so of writing at a go.

If you prefer a regular dip nib, Speedball’s C series nibs are basic italics and should be plenty cheap.

Could try the Japanese pen subsection, in someone there may know Japanese dip pen nibs, and dip pen....and the ink, :)

Without feed, of course. It won't work well with fountain pen ink, but it works just as a dip pen with the Kuretake Zig Cartoonist Sumi ink and it writes a couple of sentences with just a dip, which is more than enough for what I wanted :))

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
