Mini Review Generic Parallel Calligraphy Fountain Pen Gothic Arabic Italic 0.7 1.1 1.9 2.5 2.9Mm

The eBay title is Parallel Calligraphy Fountain Pen Gothic Arabic Italic 0.7 1.1 1.9 2.5 2.9mm

These pens are $2.39 including shipping and are a great buy. They are designed to look like the Lamy AlStar which is a problem because this would appear to be a violation of intellectual properties of Lamy and that name would look like a violation of Pilot's name of the Parallel pen. These pens look like the Jinhao pens which are knockoffs of the Lamys (see the discussion above). Let's be clear, the nibs on these pens are NOTHING like the Lamy Al-Star or the Pilot Parallel.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

These pens are perfect for difficult to use inks like the Noodler's Russian series.

The .7mm tip looks like a regular round tip? Am I seeing that correctly? The 1.1 and 1.5 look interesting.

Though it is hard to see, all of the sizes have stub nibs not round but they are really nice writers for the price. The 0.7 isn't as sharp, but for a stub it is really smooth.

I agree, these nibs are good to try stub nibs. Out of the box mine (0.7 and 1.1) were dry and showed a lot of hard starts.

After I've opened the tines a bit, they showed less hard starts, but my Lamy 1.5 stub nib also has hard starts so I consider it a common issue and move on. (Actually now that I think about it, my Pluminix stub nibs don't show any hard starts, maybe it's not that common an issue...)

By the way, my 0.7 nib is round-tipped, has the sphere tipping material and zero line variation. Since these are generic nibs, I may have gotten a wrongly printed nib. But the 1.1 is nice.

....a 2.9!

Sounds like more of a paint brush! And then I think of the Speedball dip nibs, the largest sizes and the "steel brushes" fro Sppedball also

And, for the price they are certainly acceptable. In fact, I kind of like the idea of dedicating individual pens to those crazy inks likew BSB!

Thanks for the review/information.

I was also shocked by the 2.9mm nib!

It would do a great job in displaying all the characteristics of an ink that aren't readily visible with a round-tipped nib.

Okay, having looked at it again, that 0.7 can't be a stub but it's quite nice.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
