New Series / Collaboration With James Purdey & Sons

Recommended Posts

This afternoon I spent an hour in a MB boutique and was fortunate that it was super quiet so the manager let me check out lots of special and limited edition pens.

Two things really stuck out that I need to find more information on. The first is a MB collaboration with James Purdey and sons the gun makers, from what I saw there looks to be two or three special editions to be released by the end of the year - the one I saw in the catalog looked great (Im a wooden pen lover), unfortunately I wasnt allowed to take pictures.

The second was a large scale, orange metal body Heritage 1914 with mother of pearl inlay cap - amazing, heavy pen that I need to buy when I can (though not cheap).

Something else that was interesting that I caught on the corner of a page - what looked to be an orange ink but with whiskey aroma.

Im happy with my new little prince solitaire (what I actually went in for), just not sure if I will keep the m nib or swap for a BB. Im also really interested to see what the other two Litte Prince Motive pens look like in the next few years, he hinted they are both based on little prince characters, so maybe the pilot and rose?.

Thank you for your report about an unannounced pen.

Fine wood grain is beautiful, isn't it?

A Le Petit Prince Solitaire with a BB nib would be delightful.

If you eventually decide to make such a nib exchange, it would be very nice to see a photo of the result.

I'm glad that you're happy with the Le Petit Prince Solitaire.

Hence Montblanc is making a "replica" of the pen in the attached photo?

James Purdey collaborated with Dunhill recently to do some limited edition pens - leather bound Sentrymans. Very very nice and about 60% more than the ordinary editions RRP.

Purdey, Dunhill and Montblanc are all owned by Richemont...

Please do NOT post photos or distinctive details about unreleased Montblanc products. It's not sporting to those who wish to wait until the official release.

Thank you.

I, too, enjoyed half an hour with an MB insider at a certain Asian airport.

The P&S line indeed looks beautiful.

Another 2018 Writer edition was also confirmed, think it was mentioned elsewhere, with equine overtures.

The scented inks were shown.

I was also shown the next Great Character, a certain male actor.

A very special edition will be available in a certain country, and certain to sell out long before launch

A collaboration with Purdey sounds interesting - as does whisky scented ink (my wife will hate that - a great reason to buy it!!)

On other matters, without describing it, anyone else think the Writers this year is damn ugly?

It may change when I see it in person, but.....

I would say the writer is special. Not my personal taste from what I saw on paper so it could change when it will be released but I don't plan to buy it. The only interesting thing it will be made based on a 149 for the size and not on small size as it is generally the case until now.

Hi all, I've been reading this forum for a while, but this is my first post.

Not sure if it is related to the intel posted by the OP, but a major retailer posted this to facebook yesterday:

"Montblanc introduces a brilliant 2018 Color of the Year—Emerald Green! It starts with this bright, elegant new Ink, but it's going to be more. Pens and Fine Stationery will follow."

So, some pens to compliment the Emerald Green ink appear to be in the offing.

Yes. It would be a pity if they thought low popularity of this 149-size indicated all 149-size would be less popular.

(I do not know how to say this clearly in English!).

I would swap them all for a faithful 13x remake...

Yes, so I would do! :excl:

Anna Sewell/Black Beauty??? Now that I would HAVE to go for!!

Need to go looking for the other thread that's mentioned. No doubt I'm whinnying up the wrong tree ....!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

I checked out the writer edition too - definitely not a pen for me from the look on paper, I can't foresee that changing when i hold it. :(

Recall Purdey being in collaboration with MB sometime ago. Got pics somewhere, will dig them out later.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
