Open House At Peyton Street Pens On June 2

Though we are a little later than usual this year, we’re having our annual Pen Posse Open House on June 2nd at Peyton Street Pens in Santa Cruz.

Hours: 1pm to 6pm

Where: 239 Peyton Street, Santa Cruz, California

Here are directions: https://www.google.com/maps/place/239+Peyton+St,+Santa+Cruz,+CA+95060

What to expect:

  • Free food and beverages (we will probably do tacqueria again this year)
  • Ice cream from Mariannes (a popular tradition) -- also free
  • Crazy pen people who will bring pens and inks to share and show off
  • Bins of cheap pens and pencils as well as some free stuff
  • Pens to look at and try. (We will have new pens from Ranga and Osprey)
  • Additionally, you can check out some of the "Peyton Street Pen Works" pens we are creating

Special activity: This year we are trying something new that people may enjoy – pen blank casting. We will be able to allow visitors to create and cast their own alumilite pen blanks. We will have the capacity to allow 4-5 people at a time to mix colors and pour the goop into the molds, and we will have two pressure pots set up to cure the blanks without bubbles. This is going to be free for our guests, but as you can imagine (since the blanks need to cure for an hour) we probably won’t be able to accommodate everyone. What you do with the pen blanks will be up to you!

Feel free to bring pens to sell and trade. There are usually a few people who can help with advice, repairs and nib adjustments.

Looking forward to seeing you on June 2nd!

Teri and the PSP Crew

This sounds really awesome, wish I could go! Unfortunately, that is also the date and (exact) time of a close friend's birthday party in San Francisco, so alas... I doubt I could swing both :/ Casting pen blanks sounds really fun!

Nevermind me! I'm just an inkling, a mere pigment of your imagination...

It's hardly your fault that my friend decided to celebrate her birthday that day, no worries! I'm new, so I didn't know this was even a thing the group did, and it sounds exciting :) Hoping I'll be able to make it next year, and please post pictures of some of the pen blanks people make :D

Sorry, terim, but I checked the drive-time (around noon) and it had expanded a lot to over 1.5 hours. Going over the hill to SC on a wonderfully warm and sunny day is too attractive for MANY MANY people. Next time... Have fun.

It was well worth the drive (1:15 from SSF) in so many ways!

Good food! Good friends! Good pens!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
