P205 Keeps Dropping Cartridge

Folks,

I bought a new Pelikan P205 Fountain Pen a few weeks back (from Amazon direct) the problem I'm having is the ink cartridge/converter (oem pelikan) keep working loose and disconnecting from the feed!

Anyone else experiencing this problem, I've sent pen back to Amazon for a replacement.

This is a real shame as it is soo smooth when the ink doesnt fall out!

Mike :D

Anything I could tell you, I've written about here; https://wp.me/p4XMw3-IU. Personally, I did not have that issue when using the P205 but I used mostly cartridges. Hope that link at least provides some insight into your issue if not a solution.

Maybe a little piece of balled up paper towel in the barrel end may give help keep it tight.

I have been thinking about getting this pen to use as a travel pen with cartridges and an eyedropper at home...

I use a P200 as a travel pen and have never had that problem although I know that several have mentioned it. It is important that you ensure that the cartridge/converter is firmly inserted.

Yes it was fully inserted to the point where if I pushed it anymore and my fingers slipped it would be a trip to A&E ha.

Might be a bad one, as I said its going back to Amazon - waiting replacement hopefully it will be just as smooth!

Just received my replacement pen from Amazon.

This new pen has a misaligned pelikan band in relation to the clip - where is the QC in this?

Can this be adjusted or should I just punt the pen back to Amazon!

I wouldn't worry about it if it were my pen.

But you can unscrew the crown and adjust the placement of the clip if need be. It is quite tight, so you may need help from a rubber band or something else that can provide you with traction without scratching the cap.

When you buy a brand new ~£100 pen it should come in a reasonable condition - would be fair enough if it was a cheap brand!

I decided to send it back rather than take a chance and damage the pen and not have a leg to stand on.

I have to say that I NEVER buy from Amazon. Far too often (but not always) what they sell are seconds. Buyer beware.

If you can switch it for another one, then of course, go ahead. If the store leads you to believe that the product should adhere to a specific set of minimum requirements, you should demand that.

I may not have the same discerning eye as you, since I would not even have noticed the defect.

:yikes: might be why I'm on my third one! Find out on Friday if this pen is going to be a keeper!

It was the first thing I noticed when I pulled it out of the packaging!

??????? How is it misaligned?

No one ever said the clip has to be in line with Germany or Pelikan....have had Pelikans for some 10 years and this is a brand new 'problem'.

Unscrew the top cap of the clip....screw it back in after rotating the clip ring....if that's the problem.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

You'll have to forgive me but what is misaligned? The clip has no relationship to the cap band. I just check 12 M205 pens and on all 12, the clip aligns to a different location on the band. There is no relationship and therefore there can be no "defect." Am I missing something?

If you look at the stock images on the Pelikan.com website, including all the Rollerballs and Ballpoints (although these are free to rotate, so people like me can square them up), every "Pelikan" word on the cap band is aligned to the clip centre. Just like every word "pelikan" would be printed/affixed to the Pura/Stola etc in the same place.

Tried to unscrew it, however it was tight and last thing I wanted to do would be to snap it - I have previous of doing similar things!

I disagree with you, the official website images would lead me to think differently, also look at Cultpens images (all Souveran types). Maybe they've been photoshopped to show an aesthetically pleasing perfect pen
The first one I had was aligned as I've described/expected - word "Pelikan" and clip centralised, must have been a pure fluke!
Other manufacturers I have/had all tend to align or centralise their brandname or model designation to the clip.

You are correct in that is how Pelikans product shots portray the pen. Makes sense that you would want your company name front and center for advertising otherwise, in profile, its just a pen. That is not the larger reality of production though. I reaffirm my statement that the clip has no relationship to the cap band. That assessment is based on seeing several hundred examples. Sometimes the clip falls in line with the Pelikan name and sometimes it does not. Its just random for both the Classic and Souverän lines. Perhaps shame on Pelikan for creating false expectations. Youd do well to seek out real world photos to get the truest sense of what to expect. That said, it is not an imperfection nor does it detract anything from the pen. I know we are all a little OCD in the pen game but that may be expecting a bit too much. What is in line is the cap top. The bottom of the nest should line up with the clip. I hope that something as trivial as the alignment doesnt keep you from enjoying what is otherwise a nice pen.

Well if that is the case it is blatant misrepresentation. I live in a rural/coastal region so the bulk of my pen purchases are done online. The images shown on the internet are the basis for what I go by.

Coincidentally I was in WH Smith earlier and happened to look at some of the lower end Parker pens, those with similar type caps all align perfectly.

OCD or not, I don't think my expectations are unreasonable.

On a positive note it was one of the nicest steel nibs I've used (nicer than some gold nibs on pens costing much more).

I'm not Pelikan bashing here.

Third time lucky and I'm very pleased :D

Beautiful to write with, no easily dropping out of C/C and correct cap alignment out of the box :)

Nice! Now I have to return my M1000 and M120 for the same issue (too bad that won't happen as I bought on the grey market).

Glad you got the pen that you wanted. As an aside, I checked my M150 and all three of my M200'S and only the M150 is even close to being centered with the clip. And the nest is off on that one. I don't worry about it to much.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
