It is a beautiful color and well behaved :) Lovely shading and just the right amount of green.

Then again, I'm red-green colorblind, so don't take my word for it. There are some pictures floating around in the "recent purchase" thread.

~ titevm:

Montblanc has posted that Emerald Green is the 2018 Ink of the Year.

They noted that it follows in the tradition of such previous Inks of the Year as Golden Yellow, Pink and Lucky Orange.

Thank you for posting the helpful link.

I think I have plenty of green MB ink. Many bottles of the old 80s emerald, and my Britsh Racing Green, of course.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

Thanks for this comparison. If anyone can show it vs. Irish Green I'd be appreciative to see that photo.

If you want less blah, blah, blah and more pictures, follow me on Instagram!

Waiting for mine to arrive ... matching pens and note books are available also.

From what Ive seen so far it is missing the yellow tones of Irish Green and is more towards turquoise just like the original Emerald Green ink from years ago.

Be prepared for many other new inks to be issued this year ;-)

Cheers

I still have a couple of almost empty bottles of the old Emerald and one RG. (Polite note: it was never called British RG. Some non-Brits have been known to get a little twitchy about it being called British RG.) :o :D

It would be nice to see a comparison between old emerald and new emerald. I don't have any new emerald, so hopefully someone else has both?

I don't know of this non-Brit twitchy-ness. It's interesting you mention this because forever in the MB forum we referred to this as BRG and unless I missed it, this never came up. Having lived in Europe or several years, I think I would have picked up on this actually.

On the actual MB ink box, the English-language translation says Racing Green. Auf Duetsch ist englischgruen. All the other languages are translated by my eye are basically English Green. So maybe it's logical that since they all are English, and people think of English citizens as British, it became British Racing Green.

Heck, that's even a stretch for me. You may have brought his up while I was on sabbatical from FPN. Regardless, we have called it BRG as long as I can remember.

It doesn't make it right, I know.

So the only one off is the English language translation by a German company!

It came up recently on another forum and someone came in and pointed out that it was always called Montblanc Racing Green. :)

My box says: englischgrün-racing green-vert anglais-verde inglese-verde inglês-..... but you're right, it would appear that despite all of the words for "english" the German translation to english words are the only two that don't include it. :D Fascinating. :)

Both recent and vintage Montblanc inks have been named differently in individual languages.

Sometimes an individual name may fit better than a straight translation due to cultural or language reasons.

This makes me laugh..... I am not necessarily an anglophile, but British Racing Green, in my mind, will always be associated with the darker green shades.... as Silvers are for "Teutonic Racing Silver"

(of course, I am an uneducated moron who really only sees about 16 colors, nothing remotely artistic about me). I find it funny that some of my "colonial compatriots" take issue with giving the Queen a color... :lticaptd:

Oops, diatribe took over, sorry OP..... I DO like the emerald green, but am afraid it will look light to my eyes..... same with KonTiki..... I love it (Kon Tiki) in my one wide nibbed pen, but it is a terrible baby blue in anything smaller than BB..... I do dislike the lighter shades for some reason.... I will have to wait until someplace has samples of this stuff! :D

Thank you, Tom, for the comparison. I love Irish Green, but Emerald Green looks like I might enjoy it as well. Another ink to add to my list!

~ There’s something I overlooked mentioning about what led to my acquiring Montblanc Emerald.

When I visited the Shenzhen MixC Montblanc Boutique for the third time, the purpose was to bring home a bottle of James Dean Rebel Red.

I’d read favorable comments on-line about Rebel Red, therefore felt that it might be worth having.

While looking through the ink boxes I noticed Montblanc Emerald.

The young lady assisting me graciously asked me if I’d like to try Montblanc Emerald.

I looked puzzled. She turned around to the Ink Bar table, selecting the proper bottle of it.

She invited me to dip a pen into that bottle. I did so, writing on a large piece of paper.

It was unlike any paper that I’d ever before seen in a Montblanc Boutique.

The green hue of the ink was so pleasing that I asked her to add a box of it to the Rebel Red.

Had the boutique sales staff member not invited me to try Montblanc Emerald, I’d never have purchased it.

Emerald ink need not be expensive. Herbin's Lierre Sauvage is an extremely attractive and well behaved ink on most paper.

Lierre Sauvage is so different from this MB Emerald as LS is so yellowish. While MB Emerald tilts towards blue. No comparison.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
