Mabie Todd Swan Geometric Moire Pens

Recommended Posts

(I didn't want this topic to get buried in the other moire ring top post.)

In addition to the pastel moire ring tops, there is a less common Mabie Todd Swan moire clipless pen with geometric designs on the cap.

The moire base seems to be the same material and color as the coral and nile green pastel pens.

The pens are a tiny bit streamlined.

The green one shown has no ring and no hole from a ring.

The coral has a ring, and is a bit longer than the green pen, although the caps are the same size.

Neither has any model number imprints.

They are most similar in size to the "B" sized pens, just a bit larger and wider than the 172 ring tops and the moire pastels.

The coral is 4 1/2 inches, and the green is 4 1/4 inches

Both have #3 nibs. Could this be a nod to the pens being a more deluxe pen?

In the Moak book, there is mention of these pens, and a single green one is shown. However, the pattern of that pen is different than the two shown below.

They are absolutely lovely. Are they numbered?

No number imprints. Just the barrel imprint as seen with black fill on the green pen. The coral has the same markings.

Those are fantastic!

I once told MarcShiman that I don't really make an effort to collect the moire pens. But these were a huge exception!

Has anyone seen these in any other color or pattern? I have only seen the picture from the Moak book, and the two examples that I have in my collection. I am very interested if there are others.

It's so rare to see (any) old green pens from this period which haven't discoloured. These are incredible examples!

Thanks for sharing, Greenie. Never seen any Swans like these, before.

Mabie Todd seems to have made most of the beautiful pens that I can’t buy.

Amen to that - they really are glorious aren't they?

Just saw one of these for sale. The geometric pattern is different from the OP's pens and from the pen shown in the Moak book:
