And I can't go. Again. Sigh.... I hate juggling hobbies for timing.

Is this the same hotel as last year, or yet another new one?

It looks like, at this moment anyway, that the website has been updated only for the dates. Everything else is from the 2017 announcement, including the hotel, Marriott Fairview Place.

Ink 'em if you got 'em!

...or 2015, or 2016. The seminar listing for 2017 was never updated from 2016.

Richard Binder announced for this very reason he and some other vendors will not be attending this year's show. It's understandable given last year's chaos.

I was able to speak with Bob last week. We spoke briefly about last year's show and in part, he recognized that there were issues. However, I'm not confident at this point, that any of the feedback received has been implemented.

I'll still be attending the show.

But a bunch of vendors aren't going to the DC show. Copied from Richard Binders Facebook page.

Historically, the Washington DC Fountain Pen Supershow has been an enjoyable show for exhibitors and patrons from all over the world. Last year, however, the show's change of location and lack of organization led to frustration and anger among both exhibitors and patrons. We have received no indication that the problems experienced last year have been resolved, nor has the show's website been updated except to change the dates of the show from last year's to this year's.

While all of us enjoy pen shows, participating as an exhibitor at a show is an expensive proposition. We are professional pen people, and we need to be able to set up before the public is admitted so that we can work during the show. The complete lack of information about the Washington show raises serious questions about our ability to serve our clients.

For these reasons, we have decided not to attend the Washington show this year. We greatly hope that the problems of the past have indeed been resolved, and we hope to return next year.

I’ll wait for 2019 or 2020 to head back to DC. The show was large, seemless and so friendly I have many fond memories of my past trips from Canada to the DC pen show.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

Oh I LOVED the show itself. But the date change puts it up against a seriously important prior (and annual) commitment. I liked it the year it was later than normal, and even dragged my husband to it (he was somewhat dubious about the prospect, but then spent a good chunk of Sunday hanging out at Richard Binder's table ). But the first weekend in August is just not do-able. I couldn't even do the "just go Friday and then drive back on Saturday" because I'd be missing my choir's final rehearsal before our concert Monday night (amongst other things...). :(

Oh. My. Goodness. Pen repair/nib adjustment options will be very slim in DC. This does not bode well, as Ruth commented.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
