Help! Ebay Aaargh!

Does anyone know how to get through to eBay?

I bought a Montblanc pen about four weeks ago, described as excellent condition, arrived leaking. I've taken it to a Montblanc boutique for investigation and service, which will take another few weeks before I hear back.

In the meantime, the seller agreed to open a dispute, and to wait until I'd heard back from Montblanc before we decided how to proceed.

Ebay has now closed the dispute, and try as I may to navigate through to appeal against this or contact them, brick wall every time.

Anyone got any advice please?

Click on "Help & Contact" at the top of any ebay page, at the bottom of the page that comes up are options to "Call us" or "Have us call you". That should get you through to a real person.

Are you still able to message the seller directly? If they were willing to work with you to resolve the issue, I'd think they still would be even if ebay has closed the dispute.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

In my humble opinion, if I received merchandise through an Ebay transaction where the item essentially was not as described, I would open a dispute and make arrangements to return it to the seller, get a refund and move on. Why would you send it to Montblanc? Did you really want to keep this pen for some reason? I'm just curious.

I contact the seller immediately. If they do not respond or give me problems, I take it to the next level. I deal in early American primitive antiques. So, when I don't know, I have contacts for immediate verification. With any doubt, I have it verified within 24 hours.

As for pens, I focus on early pen, and ask for additional pictures, when needed. Newer pens... we all have the experts here. :)

ebay don't usually just close disputes on their own. They either close them because the seller opened one then closed it, or because the buyer opened one then closed it. Or a timed "return" dispute ran out of time.

I don't know exactly what dispute you opened. Did you open a dispute saying you wanted to return the item because it was not as described? That is the first thing you should do. It's now automatic as soon as you click on "I want to return the item."

If so, then ebay opened the dispute and gave you a date to return the item by plus a printable postage label for the parcel. If you missed that date, then you can't now return it, and it would have closed automatically.

You definitely would not have time after opening a dispute, to take it to Montblanc for investigation. So you're now into the territory of a level 1 flat rate service from Montblanc.

Thanks everyone. The seller has been communicating and I had another case like this resolved amicably so I'm hopeful.

I am persisting with the pen because it's otherwise in lovely condition, I didn't pay over the odds for it, and if Montblanc can fix it I've got a nice pen that isn't that easily available (it's a Poe).

German Ebay was very helpful. A solid '97-8% seller of mocca cups, went 'crazy again', and dropped to 78% with in weeks. We got the cops involved, and Ebay.

The better Demi/mocca/espresso cups can cost well over E30...best ones cost a 'big' fortune like Meissen, and it became the principal of the thing.....so the cops were brought in to the problem. And the local cops gave it to the Berlin cops and they put pressure on.

Ebay sent us the money back. Took a month or two.

Then a few more months later, we got the cup from the seller. We contacted Ebay, to tell them that and how to get the money back to them......the Ebay guy was flabergasted at our honesty....then told us to keep the money.

I'm very happy to report there are still honourable good guys out there! I contacted the seller, who refunded me the cost of mending the pen by return.

I hope the Universe treats him as well as he has treated me.

😄 and other appropriate emoticons! It's a beautiful pen and a very nice writer now. I was lucky.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
