Hmmm , so many questions ?

Will this pen be plagued by the same problems as the Romus Majestic ?

I am about to ink it up and find out ...

Looks like the same feed , so will carefully document any mods as I do them ( Probably will have to )

Pen was a hard starter !

Once going it ran moist ..

Canting the pen left 45deg , the pen ran ok .

Canting the pen right 45deg , it was biting the paper and running dry .

Inverted , very scratchy .

Threads may have had a small amount of lube , threads are a very nice firm / tight fit .. ( Still dont have any silicone grease )

Over all the pen writes scratchy and the NIB could use some work .

Will see if the pen hard starts in 24 hours ..

For now no leaks and more importantly no burps .

Feed is about 4.73 mm / 4.74mm DIA, so does that mean a 5mm NIB ?

That looks like my Clicks, Fellowships, Serwex, etc... I find those profit by a good flush before use. Maybe even brush the feed, once you have it out.

After such treatment, mine are all pretty well behaved. Scratchy nib may be misalignment. Loupe or phone camera on magnification may show you.

I forgot to Macro the NIB before inking the pen ..

Tomorrow I will see how hard the pen starts ..

Then I will empty the ink , flush , mod the feed and Macro the NIB ..

I have some feed mods I want to try .. Don't believe they will hurt the pen , but I do want to ease the painful starts .

It's an ED filled - no need to do away with the ink... just let it sit in the barrel while you work on the nib&feed... that is one nice thing about eyedroppers, I guess.

Surprise !

Started right away ... ( After 24 hours resting horizontally )

So rather than doing any mods I got to polishing the NIB with 2000 Wet & Dry ..

Pen is no longer scratchy , rather smooth now ..

Also has gone from moist to wet , an writes canted 45 deg to the right .

Actually I might store the pen upright ( NIB UP ) and see if it HARD starts or if inking the pen has made it behave ..

What is the diameter of the section of this pen?

I got a little clear Click CC type pen with a Ranga 3 that came from the Group Buy.

I didn't keep the thing. The section was made for a child's, not a man's fingers.

A shame really as the nib wasn't that bad, not compared to that of an Airmail 78, which had all your issues & more.

OK - 24 more hours - This time stored NIB up ( vertical )

Amazingly the pen started right away ..

So I continued to write ( cool weather ) to see if the pen would burp .. No burps ...

Color me impressed ..

Pen will be taken out of testing and I will move onto another .

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
