Hello From Modena, Italy

Hi everyone!

I'm a 20 year old student and I've been writing with fountain pens since I was a child. I've always used a Rotring Rive until I lost the cap the first year of high school. Now that I'm in University I picked up some old fountain pens of my late father.

I really enjoy the hobby and I'd like to join your community!

Welcome to FPN! :) Do you have a favorite pen or ink currently?

My daily writer is a butter smooth Parker 45 which I'm totally in love with.

The only ink I use is waterman's Florida blue, but my gf gifted me three small diamine bottles today, so the favourite is yet to be decided.

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Hello and welcome to you ! (have you got a Ferrari :) )

Being a student definitely doesn't help to buy one, but maybe one day I'll work for them!

Benvenuto. I had the privilege of spending two months in your country in 1983 and remember it as one of the happiest times of my life.

Welcome !

For nearly fifty years, I have carried daily, in my pocket, a Parker 45. It is my choice for a

daily use pen. I have several much loved Parker 45 pens.

I am blessed to have several heirloom fountain pens from friends and family. My most treasured are

my father's Parker 51 set, and a Sheaffer that my physician grandfather used to write my birth certificate. I hope you will share pictures of your heirloom pens.

Write with joy.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
