Deal Too Good To Be True? Waterman Carene

I can't post in market watch but this should likely go there. Amazon has waterman carene in fine, black with CT for $125. Am I missing something? I've never seen them near that low. Is there a risk with Amazon I am missing?

The offer seems valid only on the black sea colour, all other colours are close or above 200$, might be a special offer.

Amazon is usually very reliable in terms of support, if you find any issue, just pack the pen, print the return form from your amazon account and return the product thorugh the post office at their expense, and wait for reimbursement. Has worked fine for me on other items. Remember not to wait too long in case of return, Amazon is cutting short its return policies...

The $124 price is fulfilled by Amazon, but the next one on the list is actually Amazon stock. So I would pay a couple of $$ more for that one.

Amazon's buyer guarantee extends to any item purchased off of their website. There's really no risk, especially if it's already being fulfilled by Amazon. That means you can return the pen straight to Amazon instead of dealing with a third-party seller.

I know there's no difference in buyer protection, but if there's hardly any price difference, I tend to prefer the Amazon own stock item.

It's not unusual for Amazon to offer Waterman, Cross and Parkers at heavily reduced prices from time to time.

I got a Carene & Cross Townsend with heavy discounts from Amazon UK. Both are working fine.

Don't you have to pay tax if you buy the Amazon own stock?

Yes, which would bring to 135 or so. Still the best deal I've ever seen. I really wish it was the white one but at that price I can live with black I think.

Hi Chrissy,

Sometimes I think Amazon is a "drop-shipper" for those "fullfilled by Amazon" sellers; i.e., those second-party sellers are actually selling Amazon inventory... and not actually having the said item in their own possession, but merely acting as an alternate outside broker for Amazon.

I was advised that the only difference was that Amazon warehouses hold their second-party stocks. It may differ on this side of the pond in any case. :)

I forgot all about adding tax. We pay 20% tax on everything, and it's included in the price. No matter who sells it. -_-

It's a good price, if it's sold by a third party, check their reputation; I've seen it as low as $80, still sorry I didn't have the funds at the time.

Amazon does offer discounts on fountain pens sometime, time back I bought a Parker Centennial GT Lapis Lazuli on Amazon for 215 euro, today the same pen on Amazon sells for 494 euro (the new big red sells for 394 euro).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
