If I Love M800's, I May Also Love...?

Thanks for your input Matlock. Disappointing to hear that about the Sailor's ink capacity. But surely it is better than their converters which supposedly hold about 0.5 ml of ink!

And I just noticed that I've only been thinking of the M805 during this whole scenario, so I guess if I buy anything new, it really should be that one. I could save the Sailor or Aurora for the next purchase, I guess...maybe Christmas.

From what I have been able to glean, the Realo holds 1ml of ink. This compares to the Pelikan M400 at 1.29ml, the M800 at 1.37ml and the 400, 400N and 400NN at 1.97ml. Good luck with your next purchase and whatever next Christmas brings.

Not the first to recommend Pilot Custom 823 - but it's a good one. Waiting on mine to arrive from Japan with an FA nib!

I've ruled that one out due to the thinner grip section and the available colors not being to my taste. I really want to stay in the sweet spot of 11 mm on the grip section. Even 10.5 is pushing it and I've got to try the pen in hand first to see how it feels. Pelikan's sections on their M800's might as well have been custom made just for me because they really are perfect in my hand. I love the weight of the pen too.

OK, good to know. Still, 1.0 ml isn't bad for the way I write. I almost always do my longest writing sessions at home where ink is at hand. When I'm away from home, I usually have two pens with me as well, so I really don't worry too much about ink capacity. Its just that a converter only holding 0.5 ml is a bit of affront to me. It's like "Were they even TRYING when they made that thing??" LOL.

Yes I've got a Sailor King of Pens SE and for such a massive pen the converter is a bit of an insult. If I'm travelling I usually take my Montblanc 147 as two cartridges in the pen and a further six in the case will usually see me out.

Yeah, that pen probably should have had it's own special (larger) converter.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
