Pif Giveaway: Churchman's Prescriptor

Giving away another pen! This is an Italix Churchman's Prescriptor with a 1.3 mm Italic nib. I got it from Mr Pen and chose to have it engraved. The engraving reads "CTR Richard". A reminder to choose the right and my name. The pen has an nice bold an large look while being surprisingly lightweight. I find the writing experience to be smooth and crisp. The included Schmidt converter is among the highest quality that I have used. I have two issues/reasons I no longer use this pen and therefore want to give it away for someone else to enjoy.

post-124990-0-22687000-1522183516_thumb.jpg

The first reason, is the 1.3 mm italic nib. I enjoy using large italic and flex nibs because they are super fun and make very expressive letters. However, I am a student and I just always seem to carry a fine or extra fine even when I don't want to. They are just more practical with the range of papers I encounter as a student.

The second reason, is the pen seems to be on the dry side. Its not the kind of dry where it causes scratchy writing though. I expect an italic nib to dump ink onto a page which I love. This pen is still smooth but is really stingy on the ink. It looks like I am smearing a thin layer of ink when I am writing. I find myself needing to prime the feed to get a desired ink flow. On rare occasions, I accidentally eject ink out by doing so. I've noticed that the nib and feed are not exactly centered on each other. I think this might be the reason causing the issue and have been unsuccessful at fixing it. The nib does dry out faster as well.

The requirement for this giveaway is that your name is Richard. I will choose the first Richard that posts a reply to this thread. I figured the engraving would be weird if the owner wasn't a Richard. Also I would like to be reimbursed for shipping just as last time (Shipping from Utah). I shipped to Atlanta, Georgia last time and the cost was under $4 just to give you an idea.

I am not a Richard. So not an entry. :)

But would like to say to you thank you for this act of kindness. Be well and enjoy using your pens.

Obviously not an entry, but, I am curious, did you try different inks in the pen? I ask because i am slowly starting to figure out the difference between a "dry" ink and a "wet" ink.

Yeah. I've tried several inks. All of my inks actually are on the wetter side if the scale. As I mentioned it doesn't write like it's dry. It is just inconsistent. It tends to just smear the ink and the ink flow will eventually cutoff.

Also T4TEXAS, I private messaged you a bit ago and I still haven't heard back. You still want the pen?

  • 1 month later...

Thanks again for this generous PIF. I am, of course, having the same problem with it. I will try some more, but I may see if a nib miester can tweak it at the next Dallas Pen Show.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
