Numberless Waterman Eyedropper

GoldenNibs

Recommended Posts

While out picking I was at a flea market and this along with a Moore non leakable fountain pen missing its cap were at the bottom of a small box filled with random junk and jewelry. I ended up getting both of these pens for peanuts. I was gonna sell this pen but I decided not to as I got it cheap and I love the early Waterman stuff. I did list the Moore though as I have no use for it. However this pen is not like any other Waterman I have found. It has no number on the bottom and has a rather scarce horseshoe 6 nib. Also the feed is very skinny and nothing like the later spoon feeds. Unfortunately the nib is trashed and is too much work for me to do. I was wondering if it can be saved and who I should send it to. I dont want to put a more common 6 nib in this pen.

Repair of that nib may not be possible but it is worth a try. Best option will be to laser weld it. Nib would be difficult to find and more expensive than a repair should you opt to look for that particular nib.

Congratulations !

What you have is a very early Waterman pen (from the 1890"s), with a very scarce shoe horse nib (in a large #6 size !).

It's really worth having it repaired.

I looked at this page before and was the reason why I thought it could be repaired.

some of the nibs shown on this page are way worse then what my nib looks like. Has anyone sent nibs out to them before? Anyone else that I also could consider sending this nib out to? I will be attending the LI pen show as an exhibitor and can bring it along if anyone attending wants to see it.

I have had nibs repaired by them (nibs.com) before. Absolutely excellent work. However, you may not see the nib for a year or more: there is a long waiting list. I've also had work done by Greg Minuskin. He, too, does excellent work and has photos on his site of successful restoration to nibs like yours. His turnaround time is much shorter.

I believe John Mottishaw is no longer retipping and may no longer be welding nibs.

Greg Minuskin is currently doing both.

I will definitely check them out. Currently the pen sits in my display case away from sun. I got many offers but Id love to keep it for now as its one I would never get again. I will be bringing it out to the LongIsland pen show this weekend to just display it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
