I dropped the m800 and the cap developed a crack at the top part near the logo.

I called chartmark and the replacement cost was 275$ for just the cap!!!!

Is there a cheaper way to fix this?

You might find one on ebay.

Or you could probably buy a new M800 pen on Amazon.de for your cap price. Check out their current prices They have some great deals on cheap Warehouse deals that are currently further reduced by another 20% off

Could be you could send it to Pelikan Hanover and get it fixed for free. Write and ask.

Your experience with Chartpak does not surprise. They have always been on the high end of pricing, quite unapologetically so. I would not pay that for a cap alone. Thats 2/3 the price of a new M800 pen. Unfortunately, since you dropped it, youre stuck looking for a replacement.

-Writing Pelikan in Germany is one option but a lot of times, they bounce US correspondence back to Chartpak so it can be hard going that route but not impossible. They do cheap or free repairs a lot of times so its worth trying.

-eBay is definitely one option as spare parts pop up not infrequently. If its just a standard, black cap, you might find one with relative ease. They go for about $160-170 currently but cheaper options pop up from time to time.

-You should contact a few dealers as they can order parts as well. Niche Pens sells these for about $150 but they are out of stock at the moment per their website.

Good luck getting it sorted out.

If you contact PenChalet.com and use the matching of price feature you might buy a brand new pen for the price of the cap offered by chartpak. I previously had a positive experience with Chartpak and they generously sent me a free Pelikano to supplement with my own whose cap got broken.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
