Lamy Pur

I wonder what is the status of Lamy Pur, is it still available as a fountain pen?

There are two versions of the Pur:

the older model 48 all aluminium

lamy-purefp1.jpg

an excellent Knud Holscher design which is sadly discontinued.

and the bland & unloved newer 47 version with a plastic section.

which also appears to be discontinued in fountain pen form but still manufactured in other formats.

At any rate, it is not currently listed on the Lamy site under the fountain pens section.

Yet,...

if you look at the redesigned section promotion products: the Pur fountain pen v47 appears to be available as an engraved/logoed promotional item.

Is Lamy going into custom order production?

Maybe it only makes economic sense to produce them in bulk?

Recently I kind of/sort of fell in love with the aluminum one, and when the Imporium showed up last year I began to hold out some hope that we might see the Pur reissued at some point in the future.

Of all the Lamy pens, it is not the Aion but the original Holscher Pur that most embodies the 'Super Normal' concept.

It is. It does it's job beautifully. It disappears again.

Maybe that's the problem. It's a pen that has a visual aesthetic but one that doesn't dramatise or photograph well, nor does it's incredible lightness in the hand lend itself to 2D promotion.

Everyone who gets Lamy should experience it, it's one of Lamy's best designs. Maybe we should start a petition to bring it back.

I have one of the originals...it's like a Safari for Sophisticates.... Just your basic tube containing ink with a nib at the end. The clip is a nice basic bar. Simplicity itself. The pure distillation of Lamy aesthetic principles.

(Safari = Playful.)

I don't really fancy it. But if there is a demand, why not just start a group buy? With enough users interested, you might be able to buy it

The only issue I had with the Pur (and the CP line of pens) was the length: I found them too short unposted, and ridiculously long posted, so I never bought them when I had the chance (headsmack).

As for the comparison between the Aion and the Pur made by Aiden, I wouldn't say that the Aion is not "super-normal" as it's come to be defined, but that the Pur most definately is. The CP 1s could probably be described as even more "super-normal" than the other two, given how aesthetically pared down they are.

The ballpoint pen will be re released with some updates.

Don't know what this means for the fountain pen though.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
