Yes, it can get quite confusing at times, but I guess that's part of the fun!

The Pen Collect site says that the Parker 15 began life in 1979 being first produced in France as the Parker Mixy as a cheaper "school" pen and that it had a broad stylised clip with an engraved large 6 feathered arrow.

In 1980 the UK and USA factories began producing the pen but with a clip similar to the 45 and designated as the Parker 15 and that the French Mixy version was discontinued in 1981 in favour of the Parker 15 version.

In 2000 the site says that the Parker 15 fountain pen was merged with the long lived Parker "Jotter" becoming the Parker Jotter Fountain Pen which is still available. I can't tell from the site whether there were any changes at this time or whether it was just a name change.

And then, as Parkergeo has noted, just to confuse matters further there is the 45 style cap!

And staying on the subject of 45s, whilst looking at the Pen Collect web site I came across the New Slimfold or Slimfold Mk II, which looks like a shrunken 45 with the same hooded nib units but with a screw on cap, a model I hadn't been aware of.

Is the second pen (with 45 like cap) made in France? Possibly marked on cap.

Yes, it clearly says "made in france" on the cap.

Hi,

The pen in question looks to be a French made P15, I have a couple of these.

Another trait of these pens is they usually have dished cap tassies and the nib often only has the Parker halo stamp on it. .

These french made pens tend to blur the lines between the Parker 15 and the true Parker 35s due to their barrel tassies.

As such, I keep these pens in the Parker 35 tray along with (most of) my Parker 35s.

Hope this helps

Paul.

Interesting, Paul. I have a French made P15 flighter but it is exactly like the one made in the Uk and USA. Not the version of the French P15 that you are showing.

Hi Mitto,

Yes I also have a French made P15 with the US /UK style cap, I guess these were made in parallel with the P45 style cap after the Mixy was discontinued.

The French P45 style cap is also identical to the UK. P45 and P61 Fibre tip pen caps.

However, they are not interchangeable with P15 fountain pens as the inner caps are different.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
