Papier Plume Garden District Azalea

Papier Plume is s stationery shop situated in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The company began its business in 2001 however the shop was opened in 2007. From what I see on google maps the shop looks quite nice.

Some time ago the company started to offer fountain pen inks. They're supposed to be hand poured and bottled right in the shop. The inks are water based and described as french inks (imported? anyone knows french private label maker?). At the moment the inks are available in 15 colors and are sold in three bottles: small (15 ml), medium (30 ml), big (50 ml):

Well, it's a light pink with a little bit of shading. The behavior is mostly decent but I can't say I'm in love with this one.

The sample was sent to me by namrehsnoom - thanks!

Thank you for the great review, Vis! This color reminds me of little girl rooms and bunny rabbits. Not my color.

Your reviews are always worth a look, even when I know I won't be interested in the color. This color is not for me, but the ink is aptly named as it does remind me of Azalea blooms.

Thank you.

I'll go along with the flowers but the color actually reminds me more of corals in the sea (under a lot of light). It sure looks more like corals than Diamine's Coral does. I've already bought this ink -- just because it's from NOLA. Not my color either but thanks for the review!

For me, the color evokes bubble gum.... :o

I like some pinks, but can pass on this one. But thanks, as always, for the review.

  • 4 months later...

I've had a sample of this colour and long for more. Shipping to Europe is ... not reasonable.

What I can say is that this ink definitely needs a wet writer or a pen that helps inks to shade. Then it is not too light but becomes really beautiful, soft, pink but with a warm hue.

Did I say how much I loved having a sample? My fav candy colour, hummm ...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
