retail customers are increasingly treated as Bata Tester which company do not even need to pay to get them to work  and in fact making money off them ; this is bad business practice at play ; I am pretty disappointed in Victo bringing such shame to a great name. In any case I think straight off copying each and every styling cue of the Sheaffer Balance today is to me no longer being possible to be considered as a homage. There really is no need to fashion the white dot, nor to have the clip exactly the same shaped. The Balance of course had been copied over and over again , even by Sheaffer themselves ( and those 90s copy are not really tat good either ); Ranga, Edison, and plenty others too, there is noting wrong about that when the original one had long gone but not to the point how the 626 being fashioned.

Instead I think Victo would be best to rekindle customers in better product and more sensible styling and decent workmanship. Needless to say such consistent bad performances simply are not encouraging at all

I agree, both about testing betas on customers who are spending their money in good faith that the product is ready for sale and about Victo going too far in copying the Balance. Keeping the Sheaffer trademark white dot really was too much.

Kinda like Hero and Victo as well copy the trademark Parker arrow clip in their 51 copies?

Haha yeah, just about every Chinese pen company has at least one model of pen with a Parker-style arrow clip.

It's so ubiquitous now that I don't think anyone thinks it's a Parker design.

To be fair though, I think Parker actually gave Hero the machines and permission to use designs way back before the revolution.

True, but originally it was Parker's and it's still mostly associated with Parker. I think it's also much more distinctive and recognizable than Sheaffer's white dot.

While I agree that Victo really didn't have to copy that, I don't think it crosses the line much further than Parker 51 copies do, if any further at all. Or Sonnet copies like Baoer 388 too, for that matter, and unlike Sheaffer Balance or Parker 51, Sonnet is still in production.

Outraging is how modern Sheaffer produces in China and yet slaps the White Dot on just about everything.

That said, I don't think it is such a bad thing: emulation is the highest form of flattery, and it might actually benefit Sheaffer.

Parker gave Hero a permission for Parker 45. Hero's P45 is Hero 800(beta ver. Hero 80) . (According to article written by Hero and some topics on Chinese forum.)

I like Hero 829 among Hero pen with P45-style nib.

Besides, it is considered that Parker's Chinese factory sold machine to Hero' s Lishui branch.

And the Only One Chinese FP maker accused by Parker before PRC founded is Chiang Hwa for its 51-style Parkrin.

Chiang Hwa late became a part of Dah-loh, Dah-loh(focus on Sheaffer) transferred its FP and Brand(Lucky) to Xinhua(Wingsung)

Wolff(Hero) faced clip problem in Thailand, late 1950s. Then the FP for export has a non-arrow clip.

It seems that the Patent and Design are only protected for 5 years before 1980s.

I woke up this morning to find that the new version of the 626 is now for sale on Taobao.
It's another small batch, so I'm suspicious that it's another experiment on unsuspecting customers.

Some customer reviews for the 626 have already started popping up on Taobao. I think the green one uses the same acrylic as the forever-out-of-stock flecked green Penbbs pens, which may also be the same as the discontinued green Lingmo Lorelei, but I don't have one to check.

I'm trying to get a sense of how much pressure I'm under to be an early adopter. Is the Wing Sung 626 going to be a regular production model? Are the materials it is offered in going to be consistent or continually changing like PenBBS?

Also, has anybody seen the domestic Chinese price for the 626?

I would hold for a bit.
25EUR is a bit over the top.

Also, don't lynch me over this but... The gold dot kinda spoiled it for me. Yeah, I know some prefer it over over the white dot....

The price in China is 118RMB, which is about 15EUR or 19USD.
Since there are only 4 colors and none of them as exotic as a lot of the Penbbs colors, I don't think you'll have to worry about them changing. My only concern is that the whole model will be discontinued for political reasons.

I agree. That's far too much to pay and the gold dot just looks odd to me. I wish they'd just take the dot off altogether, but at least the white dot has historical precedence. Judging by the Taobao offerings, it seems like they may continue selling both gold and white dot versions.

I'd wait to buy at least to make sure all the kinks are worked out first.

I agree, this a bit pricey and the golden dot is just awkward. They would better either leave the white or remove the dot at all. Which also wouldn't be incorrect historically, not all Sheaffer Balances had the white dot.

This batch isn't selling out as fast as the first batch, but it's still going fast. Down to 64 pens left on Taobao and the blue one sold out yesterday.

I'm so tempted to pull the trigger, but I really want to hold out until they finally offer the medium nib.

Or until we know that what they're selling is actually the final, finished product, and not another test batch...

From what I see now on eBay a few different sellers have them. There's also a gold nib version for over 80 USD. For a Chinese pen it's really expensive.

Gold is a rare metal, regardless of nationality. If you compare this price with other Chinese gold-nibbed pens, though, I might agree that it's a bit pricey. The Wing Sung 698 with 14K gold nib, for instance, sells for around 45 USD.

In China the gold-nibbed version of the 626 is around 47USD.

That's actually more than the 14k-nibbed Hero 100 and a lot of other Chinese hooded-nibbed pens, depending on the seller.

It's the sellers charging a premium for the novelty. I'd hold back and relax, see if reviews start to pop up around the web, and eventually buy.
