Montblancs At This Year's Cologne Pen Show

Had a great day at the Cologne Pen Show, met many nice people again and was able to handle a few wonderful pens. Also I was able to talk to the owner of one of the nicest Montblanc collections (mostly prewar pens)!

If you look closely you can spot some nice and uncommon Montblanc pens ;-)

Pen Show pictures

I came home with an

  • early celluloid Meisterstück 149 with a long ink window from repair

as well as my

  • Meisterstück 124 K which underwent major surgery.

To close another gap in my collection I got a

  • Meisterstück 132 (bow-tie clip and long ink window from the private collection of Stefan Wallrafen the author of Collectible Stars 1)

and another "project pen". I will try to post pictures later.

Enjoy :-)

Cheers

Michael

Wow, Michael! What a treat. Thanks for sharing the pics and congrats on your purchases. Havent had the opportunity of attending a pen show yet, not common on my neck of the woods, but it looks like I would have a blast.

I really must look if I have a few pictures of the original state of the 124K to show the difference of Max Schrage's work!

You got a 139 nib on that 149. Congratulations. I am still looking for one in gold. The ink window is a little dark, but the lines look very good. Enjoy your pens.

So up to now it is a later (1960's) replacement feed; maybe I will be able to find a correct flat ski-slope feed which should be correct for a pen with the longer ink window, L139 nib and older imprint (149.G). I've included a picture of both correct older and more modern version of the celluloid 149s.

The nib is nicely springy as you would expect and has a generous ink flow.

Cheers

Michael

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
