Nib On A Mb 146

Recommended Posts

Good day,

I was wondering if any of our resident experts here could identify the nib on this 146. My guess is that it's an "F" nib, but I'm not confident enough as it might actually be an "M".

Would gladly appreciate the help, Cheers,

It's a tough call as MB finishes their nibs by hand. The line between F and M is blurry. It looks like F+ to me, but really it is the other side that matters in terms of line width. I would not argue if the sticker had said F.

I would guess at F too. Doesn't look quite broad enough for M. :) If we could maybe see the line it draws that might clinch it. -_-

Hi Chrissy, unfortunately I was eyeing this pen at an ebay auction, I didn't want to purchase it if it was an "M" nib because I'm waiting for the one that I purchased from a member here that had an "M" nib on it. Did not win the auction tho', it seemed I was outbid at exactly the last 5 seconds before the auction closed, so I won't be able to provide a writing sample. I would just like to say how helpful everyone is, giving us newbies a chance to make informed decisions before making such big purchases. Reading about the pens and looking at the pictures is not enough unless you get to study the real McCoy in real life IMO, And knowing ebay with so many fakes around, one can't be too careful, even some seller's who have no knowledge of fountain pens can unmistakably without malice list a fake as a genuine article, not even knowing enough if the pen is in good working order or cleaned properly before listing it on ebay, all they know is that it's a Montblanc and it will sell. Because of my readings here I now ask the seller some questions and ask for some required pictures then go from there if I would want the pen or not, but purchasing fountain pens here on the Classified gives me peace of mind, knowing that the previous owner of the pen I'm purchasing it from loves the hobby and would actually take time to look after the pen or even clean it. I am really glad I found this group, and will forever be thankful for the guidance all of you guys give. I have funds to actually purchase a Montblanc pen brand new, but as some have eloquently put it, it would be best to try the pen first, and besides, it would probably be best to save the money for a splurge on MB WE or LE.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
