Hello Everyone...

Just joined today. A desperate search for a replacement nib for a Waterman Le Man 100 led me to you all.

I have the beginnings of a collection of Waterman pens that I have been working on here and there for several years. I bought my first Expert many years ago and since then have added an Expert II, a Charleston, an Exception Night and Day, my latest, a beautiful Le Man 100 in a gorgeous blue finish.

I made a mistake that I will not make again...resulting in my search for a nib or nib repair for my Le Man. I left my pen on my desk and apparently someone needed to jot a quick note and picked it up. They put it back on top of my desk uncapped and it apparently rolled off and hit the plastic chair pad nib first. The ink spot was clear on the pad, but no one was to be found. Thus my search for a replacement nib or someone who can repair it.

My wife tells me that I am something of an anachronism. I spent 30 years in the technology field and always have to own the latest tech, mostly Apple. She finds it amusing that I use a fountain pen, one of the oldest ways to put pen to paper, almost exclusively.

I admit that I love the feel of the nib moving across the paper and the ability to vary things with a different stroke or different pressure...and I spend a great deal of my writing these days.

As is usual when I join a new forum, I will most likely lurk a bit to see how things are done here, but welcome any hellos from either other new or longtime members.

All the best,

DC Denizen

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I'm confident that the Waterman Opera pen uses the same size section/nib unit as the Le Man 100 and Dale at Pentooling has a complete section inc nib & feed for sale in case you're interested. :)

(The nib & feed screw out of the section.)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
