Is The Rose Al Still Available?

Short and sweet. I notice that none of the retailers have it in stock. Am I too late?

Possibly. Sorry about that.

I got mine last spring. I had gone into Birmingham Pens (back when they were still open), with my initial plan of getting one of last year's Pacific Blue Lamy al-Stars. Well, that pen's color didn't wow me, so I started looking to see what else was there in the store (besides the newly arrived shipment of De Atramentis inks ;)). And saw that they still had the TWSBIs and said "Oooh! What nib widths do you have in stock?" And walked out of the store with a pen that cost almost twice was the Lamy did, and three bottles of De Atramentis ink....

Much more expensive outing than I had planned.

You may have some luck on the Bay of Evil (but you might not get a good price even if they are still available that way). Dunno if there will be any available at a pen show. DCSS is in August, and it's huge, so I suppose there might be a *remote* possibility that someone there will have one at their table.

I don't know if contacting TWSBI directly will do any good (other than possibly giving you a list of other retailers, especially ones outside the US).

I just did a quick Google search. If you mean the TWSBI 580AL in Rose, it seems to still be available on TWSBI's site. It also seems to be available from other retailers.

So if that's what you're looking for, then you're in luck 😉

Try checking out TWSBI's site (I think Birmingham Pen Company still has stock too). Good luck! 😁

For those that have it, is it a Red or more of a Pink?

Red Rose is the current color. It's more red than Pink is/was; Pink was a lot lighter in color -- definitely pink, not red.

Just checked the Birmingham Pens website -- Rose is available but Pink is sold out.

If all that's available is a Broad or some other undesirable nib size, you can purchase a replacement nib or swap nibs with another, more mundane 580.

Thanks for all your help. I think I'll purchase from the TWSBI store. I have a bunch of other 530,540 customized nibs I can swap for the broad one they seem to only have available.

As it turns out there may not be any additional pens produces as 580 AL Rose.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
