Hi, Folks!

This is a Sheaffer 500 Black fountain pen c. 1962-1964. It's a 5 3/8 inches long cartridge fill fountain pen that introduces a new look to the line of Imperial type pens with its integral diamond shaped stainless steel point and diamond shaped inlay in the color match section. The pen fills by unscrewing the section and dropping in a Sheaffer Skrip ink cartidge that is punctured when the section is then screwed back on. The chrome plated clip has SHEAFFER'S stamped on the face. The cap is brushed stainless steel and the barrel is molded plastic in solid colors including Black, Burgundy, Grey, Blue, and Green. Note the chalk marks and paper band on the barrel. The fountain pen was $5.00, the matching pencil was $3.95, and the matching Safeguard ballpoint pen was $2.95.

Hi, Folks!

This is a Sheaffer 1000 Green fountain pen c. 1962-1964. The 1000 model is a 5 3/8 inches long cartridge fill fountain pen that introduces a new look to the line of Imperial type pens with its integral 14 karat gold diamond shaped point and gold plated diamond shaped inlay in the color match section. The pen fills by unscrewing the section and dropping in a Sheaffer Skrip ink cartidge that is punctured when the section is then screwed back on. This example is not a documented model as the 1000 was advertised only as a cartridge pen, and appears to have the barrel and section swapped from a Touchdown filling 800 model to create this "Touchdown version" of the 1000, a very easy change to make and accounts for a number of "new" Sheaffer models that probably were not catalogued or sold that way. The gold plated clip has SHEAFFER'S stamped on the face. The cap is gold plated with a repeating group of lines pattern similar to the PFM V. The barrel is molded plastic in solid colors including Black, Burgundy, Grey, Blue, and Green. Note the SHEAFFER'S imprint on the barrel. The fountain pen was $10.00 and the matching pencil was $6.00.

I have this model with gold plated cap in black, with pencil. They cost $10 on ebay about a year ago. This is one of the smoothest pens I have had. I use it with a push button converter.

Hi, Folks!

This is a Sheaffer 500 Burgundy fountain pen c. 1962-1964. It's a 5 3/8 inches long cartridge fill fountain pen that introduces a new look to the line of Imperial type pens with its integral diamond shaped stainless steel point and diamond shaped inlay in the color match section. The chrome plated clip has SHEAFFER'S stamped on the face. The cap is brushed stainless steel and the barrel is molded plastic in solid colors including Black, Burgundy, Grey, Blue, and Green. Note the chalk marks and paper band on the barrel. The barrel imprint shows just under the paper band. The fountain pen was $5.00, the matching pencil was $3.95, and the matching Safeguard ballpoint pen was $2.95.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
