140mm long suggests it's a M800. A lovely pen.

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Welcome kbkwok! Here is my Pelikan, I think a 250 from end 80ties, so about 30 years old.

14K goldnib and OM (for me as lefthander)

Welcome !

Is your Pelikan a piston filler ? I suspect that the "M" means piston filler. Please give us an idea of its age !

Pure gold is 24K & 18K is 75% pure. The "750" means 75.0% . This is a typical European designation.

The 5½ inch length , and the visual relation to fingers (It is not a skinny pen.), would imply a cap diameter of ½ inch.

This model falls between my specimen of M600 and specimen of M1000. I will guess model M800, which is missing

from my collection.

The most gorgeous, voluptuous woman, I have ever met in my life  , is also my closest friend of thirty years. (Cruel

joke of the Fates. Nasty, old witches of lore that they are. ) She has my Souveràn M800. Her letters never acknowledge

my inquiries on the matter. :wallbash:

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

For identification of your pen, it would be better to ask in the Pelikan forum where you will find members who know about Pelikan models. :)

Having the same model lying right in front of me, I can assure you, you own a Pelikan M805 Black with an 18K two-coloured gold nib.

The M on the nib means "medium", referring to the line width it produces. This M has nothing to do with piston filler or not, but the pen is a piston filler allright.

The whole bunch of the Souverän series carries another M in its name (as well as the Classic series) - my guess is, to distinguish them from the vintage 400 series.

The M800 and the M805 are both 140cm long and the only difference between the two models ist the trim: gold trim for the M800, silver cloured trim for the M805.

The M805 exists since 2002 and is still being produced. To be able to date it somewhat more exactly I would need a clear picture of the top of the cap. Does the Pelikan have one chick or two in his nest? If there are two chicks, the pen has to be from 2002/2003, as in 2003 they changed the logo to one chick. If there is only one chick in the nest, your pen dates from 2003 - 2010, because in 2010 the logo changed again to a silver coloured metal cap with etching.

That should be about it.

If the trim on the cap and barrel are silver then it is a Souveran 805 and the M on the nib does refer to the broadness, in this case a medium nib. A beautiful pen, I have a Souveran 605, 405 and 400 and always love writing with them. It makes work less of a chore!!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
