I found someone selling this pelikan for only 50 $ , I am not a fountain pen expert. so pelikan experts. is this real authentic or a fake ? he says the pen never been used. Is the packaging of the pen right ? this are all the pictures I have on hand now. I didn't see the pen in person yet. he says on the nib 14c - 585 is written.post-134897-0-83536600-1520620125_thumb.jpgpost-134897-0-93429900-1520620133_thumb.jpgpost-134897-0-55410000-1520620241_thumb.jpgpost-134897-0-84502500-1520620255_thumb.jpgpost-134897-0-89857600-1520620268_thumb.jpgpost-134897-0-74541900-1520620279_thumb.jpg

Think of it this way: A person could go broke fabricating a pen like this and then selling it for $50. The real question remains: what is the condition or functionality of the pen once you receive it. if it works, and looks as good as it looks in the pics, then you are now officially the newest member of the sumgai club.

Never heard about fake modern Pelikan. This one looks like an original et genuine.

100% genuine. I have never heard of or seen a successful imitation of a modern Pelikan. If nib works well, then its a real bargain. But even if nib is defective but cap, piston mechanism, barrel etc are in good condition, I would say still get it as it will also take the M200's smooth & springy nib as well. The seller probably does not know the real value of a Pelikan as usually is the case with most people selling pre-owned (whether used or unused) fountain pens on OLX.

Not the best photos but absolutely genuine looking. Hard to place for sure but looks like a green striped Souverän circa 1997-2010. The box looks closer to the late 90s. Depending on the size, with a 14K nib, you're likely looking at an M400 or M600.

Bought it finally !!! I went out checked it in person. Took the loop and the nib was just wrong in Avery way , bent and he disassembled it and everything in the nib geometry was wrong. He told me he didnt touch the nib but eh nib was abused and I knew that I will have to buy a new nib.

I told him I have to buy a new nib and since he doesnt know anything about the value of the Pen I managed to buy it for 20$ !!!!!! The piston and mechanism are perfectly working , the cap is a bit stiff in twisting open and close. I think I got myself a good deal even if I will buy a new nib.

Since I am a newbie is this a m400 or m600 . Here is a picture next to my m200 .

I believe you have a M600.

Yes, M600. An M400 would be roughly the same size as the M200. Do you have a pic of the nib?

I bet one of the nib tuner folks could fix that nib up nice cheaper than a new nib and it would be smoother too.

Even with nib tuning....you are still officially a Sumgi.............and that 200's nib will work just fine, and you may like it even more in it is regular flex, to the 600's semi-nail....but a good smoothing job will do the trick....should end up 'butter smooth'.

That nib is very salvageable. It would be infinitely cheaper than sourcing a new one. They mostly just look misaligned more than anything else. A nib meister could get you writing again without much effort by the looks of it.

Looks like the tines need adjusting. You could easily do this yourself. On the Forums main page go to Of Nibs and Tines, read the third post from the top Nib Info Reference. Now you are well on your way to becoming a nibologist!

I actually put my m200 nib on it for now. I did try to adjust , but it is still very scratchy in one direction , one of the nibs is slightly roatated

That gold nib looks like it might easily be improved. Re-aligning the tines so that they are level is very straightforward. Then even if one of them is slightly rotated, it would still write. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
