Revival Of My Proust

The grip section of my Proust and besides the inner resin inside the silver tube of the body had been cracked. But the pen was repaired

perfectly by Hikkigukobo, Mr Kanesaki's company. He is a rising but skilled craftsman. Sorry, his blog is written only in Japanese.

That is good to know as getting MB to fix this semi-common issue is about $500 nowadays.

~ The photo series showing the restoration process is outstanding.

The images were made with a Canon IXY(IXUS) 140. They demonstrate that high quality fountain pen images don't require larger camera and lens set-ups.

Thank you very much to Rokurinpapa for posting the link.

Last year I bought a Montblanc Marcel Proust relatively cheap on ebay. Turned out the barrel was broken and I sent it in to Montblanc for repair, which cost me about €450. Now it writes perfectly well and is a very lovely piece.

By the way, is anyone using an Marcel Proust pencil?

Always good to read about a Proust coming back into use.

I've been fortunate that I have not caused problems for the 13 or so years it has been in my custody.

Excellent work. :) It's a shame I can't read Japanese.

summary: I made the cracked section coated with artificial urushi, but the ink leak could not be stopped. So I

decided full -scale repair and asked Mr.kanesaki to do so. At first he made the grip section of his own

making. He insisted on the perfect restoration of the original shape. He used pictures that he

searched on internet for reference. But he noticed that the inner resin of the silver tube was also

cracked. He remade the grip section and tube seamlessly. He was very careful of the position of the

parts.

I heard that he used special fairly unfading black ebonite .

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
