Namiki Emperor Or Pilot Custom Urushi?

I do have both Urushi #50 and Custom urushi black, but no Urushi #20. I liked the Night scene of pavilion that you posted and the discontinued Chrysanthemum Dew. Maybe later I will try to acquire a Maki-e one. I find very few designs that attract my attention. Noshi Bundle is also nice.

Regarding inking, I am not sure. I did get the pen in my desired nib width (FM) so that I could write with it, but regular usage sign will show on this, which I may not like. :/

Edit: and no issues about the photos. I don't have a high quality camera either and use my iPhone to take photos :)

Beautiful pens, but would pain me not to write with them. For me, I enjoy the writing aspect more than the looking aspect. I’m so happy Namiki nibs are as good if not better than I had hoped. My big broad Sailor King of Pen nib is now playing second fiddle.

Same - I wouldnt own a pen I didnt ink, at least once.

Too many pens; too little writing.

Collection. Complete.

Congratulations on the purchase. I ordered mine from nibs.com just today! I bought a Custom Urushi in Vermillion just recently, but it will be a catch and release for me.

Thanks and congrats. My No. 20 remains my favorite pen by far. It is a wet one. I cant believe the most tame ink Ive found for it has been Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue. It writes spectacularly with that ink for me. I may try some other colors again at some point. It is my first use of a Con 70 converter and I REALLY like it. What a super comfortable pen to use ergonomically. The fit and finish is all that. Interesting my nib is dated 12/2017.

Glad you like it. I've had the same excellent experience with mine.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Try Octopus Fluids' Ultramarine or Waterman's Florida Blue (Serenity Blue nowadays). Much bluer. Or stay with Pilot's Asa Gao.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
