Hello! I am happy to have found this forum. Recently I've rediscovered my love for writing with fountain pens. When I was a kid in the '90s I did most of my writing in elemantary school with a fountain pen (that we got for free). After that I moved on to ballpoint pens and did pretty much all of my work in the past 18 years with those spring-loaded BIC pens.

About half a year ago I bought a Lamy Safari and at the first stroke and watching the ink slowly dry on the paper I got hooked again!

I am 29 years old and work as an engineer. Currently my favorite fountain pen is a Lamy 2000 with a broad nib.

Salute!

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

:W2FPN: Glad to have you join us. There's a Lamy forum in the Brand Focus section that you might enjoy for starters if you haven't already found it. Lots of nice, helpful people here too.

Welcome, Jack !

My LAMY 2000 is one of the smoothest writing pens in my collection. I really enjoy using it. The tiny metal "wings" on the section are of some concern to me. The appear to be quite fragile. Have you experienced a problem ? I have not.

Nope, I actually grip the pen at both of them and they are of no concern to me at all. In fact, they help me to position the pen in my hand so that I'm always in that "sweet spot".

Welkom!

I remember the primary school fountain pens. They were always Bruynzeel pens I think. Mine was this dirty green color.

The 2k is my favorite pen, too!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
