Thanks a lot for reviewing the Decimo! I'm interested in this model as the clip looks less grip-hindering than the current VP. It looks more graceful too, a bit like the old VP.

A couple of questions for owners:

Does anyone know if the obsolete con-20 converter fits in the Decimo? I prefer squeeze converters.

How does the narrower Decimo feel in the hand? I'd really appreciate a comparison photo with, say, a Parker 51 fp or Parker Jotter bp.

I use the Con 20 in my Decimo.

Much prefer the Decimo's thinner body and the weight being 1/3 lighter over the Vanishing Point. The clip is different too, and more comfortable in my hand.

Here is an image comparing the Vanishing Pint, Decimo and Jotter:

Thank you for your insightful review of the Pilot Decimo Capless. I have been intrigued about the Pilot capless operating mechanism for a while now but have not yet decided to get myself one of these.

While attending a Toronto pen group, I had the opportunity to test (write with) a couple of first generation Pilot Capless/ Vanishing Points, a current Vanishing point & a Decimo. Both the first gen. VPs & the Decimo fit my tiny hand much better than the standard VP. The narrower diameter of the Decimo's conical grip & its smaller clip made the pen comfortable to hold.

The only reason I would get a VP is to enjoy one of the "raden" surface finishes. A beautiful but frivolous thought.

IMO The most ergonomic is the discontinued faceted capless. I hope they bring back something similar.

I have not had the chance to try the old version of the capless but just from looking at pictures of them i have to say that they look incredible! Hopefully i will get to try them one day!

Great review!

By chance I got to try one of these out the other day and fell in love with it. I definitely want to add one to my collection!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
