A friend of mine just gave me 2 fountain pens he bought in a trip to Hanoi (Vietnam). These pens have been refitted with Zebra flex nibs . I suspect they are originally fountain pens from China , imported to VN and rebranded as a local brand . I would love to know what is the Chinese original brand of these 2 pens . Please help . Thanks.

Yes, the gold and black pinstripe breaks down to $6.39 USD. If its pre-fitted with a G-nib, I have to admit I'm tempted.

No such luck , Fred ! There is no email address at the website and I doubt that they would ever let you know the supplier of this pen !!

The great thing about this pen is that its section has an Interior diameter of 6. mm and use a 5mm feed . Somehow, it works with the Zebrea flex nib !!

BTW, I use Zebra flex nib for cartoon drawing , not for calligraphy .

It's a great pen if you need a flex nib for calligraphy or drawing comic . The gold and black pinstripe pen costs 125,000.$ dong ( VN currency ; It's roughly : 1 $ US = 20,000. dong).

I am not sure how much they would charge for delivery to the USA ..Maybe more than the cost of the pen itself :D !

My friend bought the pen from here :

https://www.penpro.vn/2017/05/but-mai-thay-anh-sh-024.html

A few friends of mine like to buy this pens . That is the reason why I post the question .

If I know its original Chinese brand, I can search on ebay or amazon.com and buy from there . Of course, buying the Zebra flex nib is easy on amazon.com .

By the way, the pen in blue color costs 210,000.$ dong ( about 10.50$ US) . The Zera nib is a titanium nib ( i.e. it costs around 3.$ US a pop on ebay) . As for the pen itself, it is identical to the gold and black pinstripe pen but in blue color.

Titanium or titanium coated? Do you know how long it lasts before needing to be renewed?

Ofcourse, at 3$ US a pop, it must be titanium coated :D The common G nib costs only 1$ for each nib .

"...This nib is a G nib treated with titanium coating, which improves its durability and resistance to wear and abrasion, while maintaining the comfortable drawing feel. The nib can last long enough to draw a thin uniform line for about 75 meters, about 55 meters longer than conventional G nibs...."

Source : More infos on this nib can be found here :

https://www.jetpens.com/Zebra-Comic-Pen-Nib-G-Pen-Pro-Titanium-Pack-of-10/pd/13145

You can get it on ebay for around 30.$ US for a pack of 10 nibs.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
