What Ink Have You Ordered? - 2018

Recommended Posts

I just received an Irushizuku set, where I learned that Kon-peki and Edelstein Topaz are nearly indistinguishable on the various paper I have, except that Kon-peki is wetter. The Kon-peki is NOT a good ink for a wet-writing Pelikan on absorbent paper. But I look forward to putting it in a less gushing pen.

On the way is a Massdrop full of Edelstein ink: Topaz, Aventurine, and Jade.

Well, I tried the R&K SketchINKS and find several of them are the same as Super 5 inks I already have (they are also waterproof and, I now realise, are also made by R&K).

SketchINK Jules is the same as Super5 Australia

SketchINK Emma is the the same as Super5 Dublin

Not happy.

I got Emma, Frieda, and Lilly, but haven't had a chance to try them yet. I never had a chance to try the Super 5 inks.

Diamine Oxford Blue

I was surprised the bottle has changed

it's still glass, it's still 80 ml, but I admit I liked the previous version more (especially the cap).

That's interesting to know -- I have a sample of Kon-peki but haven't had a chance to try it (had considered inaugurating the Decimo with that, but it's only a 2 ml sample and I was afraid I wasn't going to be able -- even tilting the vial -- to get that long skinny VP/Decimo nib fully immersed in that small an amount of liquid to cover the breather hole in the feed).

I have noticed that Edelstein Topaz is almost identical-looking on the page to Diamine Havasu Turquoise and Akkerman Tréves-Turquoise.

There was a thread a while back about the new Diamine bottles. I think a lot of us felt like you did about the change.

OTOH, it doesn't change the contents -- I LOVE Oxford Blue!

I already have enough ink for 4 lifetimes, and enough black ink for 3 lifetimes, but I just ordered some Sailor Kiwa-Guro. This is my first bottle of Sailor ink, I am looking forward to giving it a try.

I just purchased Colorverse 13 & 14, along with the KWZ's Warsaw Dreamin, Walks over Vistula, and Baltic Memories. USPS says they should be here on Tuesday.

Atsu finally got to me again. Three of the new Kingdom Notes are on the way: Blue Violet, Deep Purple Violet, and Aonibi Blue Grey.

Just got my Organic Studios Nitrogen, a dark blue with a mettalicred sheen. It works very well in my Eco medium nib. I may put it in my Nemosine .8 when it next runs out (it runs out a lot, I use that pen often)

I tried mine last Thursday for the first time, what an amazing ink! So impressed I tried to order another bottle but Pen Chalet is out. :(

Tried Vanness and they have it so I ordered two, just in case OS goes on hiatus again.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Just placed the birthday order(s)....

Iroshizuku kon peki for a great price at Target. Shipped to my local store. Had to pay sales tax, but no shipping. Out the door @ $16.87 ($15.79+1.08 tax)

Massdrop has a KWZI standard ink drop 3 bottles for $29.99. I ordered El Dorado, Pine Green and Brown #4

Oh and notebook and paper from Goulet. Can't leave them out.

  • 4 weeks later...

First ink purchases this year for me, I ordered a bottle of Sailor Rikyu-Cha and Kin-Mokusei today. Love these two, so I "needed" backup bottles.

Now I'm just hoping it won't be freezing when they're delivered

Today, I finally got around to ordering some KWZ inks from Vanness - bottles of Honey and Red and samples of El Dorado, Grey Plum, Green #3 and #5. I also threw in a bottle of Krishna Banana Yellow that kfoss reviewed.

Let me know how you like El Dorado when it arrives. I have a full bottle coming, based on a Massdrop swab. (and Pine Green and Brown #4) The closest color I currently have to it is Apache Sunset. And that is a LOT more orange.

A bottle of Edelstein Smoky Quartz arrived the other day, which is weird because I didn’t order it because I wasn’t going to fall in love with another limited-release ink. But it is an awfully nice ink.

Thank you Ruth, I like it too, it is my first time trying it, but I love how it's dark.

Since purchase, I also got a bottle of Diamine Midnight.

I am touring dark blues at the moment... :)

Of my Noodler's (Apache Sunset, 54th Massachusetts, Blue Eel, Black) I have used more of the Apache Sunset than the other three combined. And that is the order I use them most to least.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
