Oh no... that's terrible.

So what happens now?  Is this something Waterman will take care of?

Any idea on the cause?

No. My only thoughts are a poor shape match between nib/feed and the bore putting undue stress on the grip.

That's unfortunate.  A little bit troubling.

Glad to hear it's being taken care of.

I don't have an Exception, but in the extreme close-up photo it looks like a screw-in nib unit, with a plastic flange overlapping the inner edge of the metal ring.  Any chance it might be a cracked collar, rather than section?

Yes, I think you are right.

According to tracking it's on the way to France.

Update: c'est arrivé Savigny Le Temple,  France

Well, hopefully it will be easily fixed and back to you soon!  My current problem pen is an Aurora, and I don't plan to pursue the idea (or headache) of having that maker repair it.

Update: It was in the hands of a Technician today in the Global Service Centre, St Herblain. So perhaps Poland is not the main service centre.

I think you're right too. It does look like a cracked collar.   :)

Update: New shell assembly fitted under warranty and shipped.

It's has arrived at Tamworth, UK

Which leans me towards the failure of my 3rd ultrasonic cleaning machine. No more cheapo ones (£30/£40) for me again so I ordered a slightly more expensive one from Germany. One with heating and a 60 minute timer. Hope it arrives this week also.

Update:

The pen is now back with me after a 10 day round trip to France.

A complete new section has been fitted.

The pen was returned in a clear cigar case along with a new converter (all plastic) and a blue cartridge.

You cannot fault the service.

That was fast.  Glad to hear it turned out well in the end (though I have to admit I've been eyeing my own Exception with a touch of suspicion lately).

Wait. Back up a few posts. What was that about the ultrasonic machine? Can they actually cause such damage?

I can see plating coming loose and glued/shellaced parts separating ... but a crack?

Glad you got your pen back though and with such a relatively short turnaround time

No, ultrasonic would not be the perpetrator. It was/is a fault in the plastic.

No questions were asked so I suspect a common fault.

I also requested that the original, smooth, nib be placed into the new shell which it has.
