A Few Pelikans On My Desk

Claud

Recommended Posts

My M800 Renissance is one very wet pen. Can't wait for a pen show to get it tuned. My M400 was perfect right out of the box, and so is my M800 Stressman, but it was purchased from Nibs.com and tuned as part of the purchase.

At this time, I have an M200 Smokey Quartz with a M400 Medium stubb nib and an M600 Black and blue on order. I also have a Nibs .com M600 Broad Stub nib coming soon. I just love Pelikans, but I have a Sailor and a MB coming soon.

I got more Pelikans to clean than that in the to clean cup  ...but only have inked my 605 1.0 stub (stubbed from baby bottom BB, by Fountainble) in a Diamine blue glitter ink, my new regular flex EF 200, with the sample of L'Adtison 'Brun Ours' a light brown ink.

For extra nibs, I purchased an M400 medium stub, an M600 B stub and an M600 F, all from Mr. Mottishaw at Nibs.com. They have all been stub modified (except F) and tuned by him. It was well worth the price. I also got my M805 Stresseman from him. It is a sweet writing pen.

I'm down to a single Pelikan, a black M800 for which I've tried Fine, medium, OM and now finally a broad nib, which is the one I'm keeping. The OM nib is still for sale..... ;)

Claud - how does the MB149 fit in with your Pelikans? I'm considering getting one, but am unsure about that.

Aren't those extra nibs super expensive?

My daily writers today are - M605 white F; M200 Café Crème with a M400 EF nib; a Lamy Aion F for outdoors; and a 1980s MB 146 F nib.

That's a nice roost for the flock. Love the Renaissance and Stresemann.

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

OM nibs are awesome. I was really tempted by yours ... a lot. If only I wasnt so anal about wanting the modern single chick one with my modern M800. I did find one in the end, and I can only recommend it.

I have Pelikans taking over my desk as well. A black m200 has brought along an 805 Stresemann and an 805 Black & Blue, and I think an m800 black is supposed to show up sooner or later. Congrats on your newest additions! You have great taste!

My extra nibs are about $180 t0 $210 mostly used from nibs.com, and $55 each for stub.

I did not start out as a collector. I am mostly a user and I like Pelikans because they are quality pens. Every one needs something to measure against and for pens, it seems to be Mont Blanc, so I bought their best writer, the 149. That is all, just one,

Meanwhile, I have bought a 400NN and a 100N as a historical addition, but they will be used as writing pens.

Such beautiful and precious pens!

.... and what jumps into my eyes first?

The cheap Reform 1745 on the left! :)

And that pen was sort of what started it all. It was given to me by my boss who has also been a long time friend. He is a user/ collector and I guess we will hit the pen shows together.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
