Pilot Con-40 Disassembly

Wahoo I finally figured it out! I hope my instructions are clear. I took the photos in reverse as I put the Con-40 back together so the photos might seem a bit odd. Be careful when applying pressure to the turning knob. The plastic tabs don't seem very strong.

and I thought Pilot built the CON-40 like the Pelikan M200 in terms of construction that they heat seated it guess I was wrong

Im pretty sure the M200s piston mechanism is snap-fit, kinda like the turning knob of the Con-40. Older Pelikans had heat-set/friction-fit pistons though.

I was thinking about re-lubing the piston since it's hard and loud to operate, but the operation looks too sophisticated and time-consuming for a piece of plastic that managed the feat to make me detest it so much.

I'd rather refill the cartridge than dedicate that time, attention and energy to that poor-designed thing.

I already tried to see if the suction was better without the agitator, but oh boy was I naive..

This convertor is very difficult to completely clean, even with an ultrasonic cleaner.

 

And that's why it's useless and a waste of time to take it apart.

I wouldn't waste a wash in the ultrasonic cleaner. Just jam a q-tip or a twisted handkerchief in there damp with window cleaner and run it under water.

This is, of course, provided you removed the agitators. I did so about four days of incessant ringing every time I moved my pen.

I'm still wondering about what trickster spirit possessed the designer at Pilot when this converter came to life. They need an exorcist, and quickly.
