Greetings From Rome

Hello,

I write from Rome. I am a 53-year-old with a big child inside, and this child searches in small markets, in every place, fountain pens.

I'm not looking for a specific fountain pen brand, no! I think that you can fall in love with fountain pens just as you fall in love with a person. When I see a fountain pen and it has something special, it is not important how old it is, whether vintage or new, whether it is a cartridge or a piston, whether it is noble or not. Important for me is to feel that the stylograph is making me feel an emotion.

I have German, Chinese and Italian fountain pens, and I love every one of them.

Surely in this forum I will be able to learn a lot. Also to improve my English.

You will forgive me some errors, but I do not want to use the automatic Google translator.

That's all for now.

See you soon.

Hell and welcome! I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here!

I love the way you look at (and feel about) fountain pens! I can relate! :)

Another fellow Italian fountain pen user, welcome!

You're right not to use Google translator, it's not a good option. If you need help with single words I recommend wordreference.com. No affiliation.

I bet in the capital you can find some treasures in flea markets and vintage stores. Che fortuna~

Now there's some vintage markets in lot of places in town. Just for sell used things. Probably the fault of the economic crisis, but now is more simple to find a "free" market, how say:"open the hood of the car and sell!"

In this markets people are not a professionals, sell everithing they have at home.

This is a cruel reality. But, that is!

Then, there are some "no legal markets" : gypsies and other strange person open it in a field in suburbs. From 2 or 4 hours, after, when the police come, all finish.

There're certanly legal markets, but about fountain pens only, ,...I don't know about it. Every markets sell vintage's things (chairs, tables, pictures, etc.etc.)

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

If you ever visit Novelli Pens in Rome, say hello to Marco, from me.

Enjoy your time here and write with joy.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

And why not? Surely next week I'm going to go there, because just now you have given me a reason to go. So I can observe some beautiful pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
